Hightower will not be given the tag, now a free agent

I'd definitely be willing to pay him that on the tag for the upcoming year, as that would allow the team two different cracks at the draft/free agency to replace him.

I'm not a fan of the gamble for this particular year, but then again, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Belichick likes to turn and burn with the rookie pacts, which is one of the reasons we're normally in a good cap position to begin with.

If he leaves i would love to know what the pats offered him. I just wanna know what he left on the table.

Here we go again. I expect another different outcome than last time with McCourty. It sucks. You can't get attached to these players. I expect butler to cash in when his time comes as well.
If that's Belichick's system, so be it. I don't think we can project anything about Butler right now, though. The coach likes to get what he can from cheap rookies and takes a longer pause when it comes to bigger, high-priced deals.

BB sets a max price he will pay for the player and their position. If the player wants more they're goners, it's that simple. Nothing personal.

I loved Hightower on the pats, he improved every year and made big time plays. Wish him nothing but the best if he takes his talents elsewhere for more money. The balls in his court, he will test FA and see if a team offers him money he can't refuse. If offers are in the ballpark of what we offered maybe he stays. Time will tell.

If he wants 16 a year then let him go. Much as I love Hightower as a player he isn't worth that. Trade Garrapolo and draft a LB in the first round, then get the comp pick for him. The sh.t teams have really created an insane free agent market, the money has gotten ridiculous. I'm all for paying great players too money but when Hightower etc want more money than Keuchly the market is out of whack.

It's ridiculous the amount of money these guys make but it's a brutal sport.

The "Big 3" was the "Big 1" in 2016 and they seemed to accomplish quite a bit with that strategy. I have this strange, gut feeling that Bill Belichick will likely make the right decision, and the 2017 version of the New England Patriots will be a great overall team, with or without Hightower.

I have complete faith in Belichick but watching really good players leave over money gets really frustrating. I was OK with the Jones deal and understood completely why they dealt Collins, but I thought they would be able to keep Hightower and Butler, now I'm doubting they'll keep any of them.

Oh well, once they got #5 I felt the rest would be gravy and I'll just have to maintain that attitude.

Yeah, I hear you. We always want to know what the competing offer was. I'm sure there will be some rumors thrown around if he leaves.

No knock on Roberts but he aint hightower. Linebacker will be a big priority in the draft.

But if they think Roberts is even close, you can get a lot of other pieces for $15 million. And drafting a LB won't cost much money. They will spend the money somewhere - where is the question.

If hightower is gone, then they have to go out and draft rueben foster.

If he leaves than just give me an impact guy on defense. Maybe a campbell in that d line. I would also like to sign a corner if ryan leaves.

Imagine : getting attached.

Why the HELL get attached ?!?! They are piece so of a puzzle. They are pawns. Get attached to winning. I love me some Tom Brady, but if dumping him guarantees a couple more titles - where do I sign ? (Yes, it's an extreme example, as I believe - as most do - that Brady is the reason for the winning...)

BB - just win. Pick up whomever & dump whomever. Just keep winning. People that want to get attached can follow Rivers in SD/LA. And lose.

The Patriots made offers to several of their free agents before the season began.
Cannon accepted the offer and was extended. The others refused and have been written off by BB. I expect them to re-sign none of their high end free agents.

The one thing I think some of these guys are missing is legacy. Seymour was on his way to a HOF career and imo that ended when they traded him, which was something I think he wanted. Law may make it despite going to the Jets but he would have had a better shot if he stayed. Hightower could have a HOF career and going elsewhere will more likely than not make that much tougher to achieve. I get why they go for the top dollar but imo you are better off taking a little less and improving your chances for more rings and a real shot at the Hall.

Hightower has done alot for this team. You know that right? He made the biggest plays in the superbowl. I want him to stay but again we are seeing how they run things here. I do feel 12 to 13 million's good money for high. I don't know if they offered that. We will see.

Yup. Loved HT's play while he was in NE. Think he is a VG player. I have no emotion attachment to a stranger who plays on my fav football team. Just win. Regardless of who I is on the roster.

Bye bye.

He's gone. They just seem too far apart. Frankly I am not sure he wants to be here and sure as hell don't get the feeling he will take a discount to stay.
He can go to his buddy Jamie Collins to Cleveland.

I think this is really, really, really stupid but I am not BB.

Hightower is just a Patriot man, I hope he stays.

I just hate going through this again this year...last year
