They tendered Hoomanawanui at the 1.323M tender.. No way he is worth that.

Very disappointed in that move by them.

There goes the season. :bricks:

(A) RFA tenders are not guaranteed, even if signed (ask Brian Hoyer).
(B) It doesn't preclude them from signing him to, say, a two-year deal with lower cap hits, if they so choose.
(C) It's not like they don't already have competition for him (Ballard, Herman).

Superbowl baby

Re: Here is your WTH momemt for the Pats

nah, the WTH moment is Cribbs.

I guess we need 4 TE's, Gronk and Hernandez have proven injury prone. Ballard and Hooman will be backups that will play once/if Gronk and Hernandez go down.

AH is injury prone.

Gronk is not. A guy falls on his ankle and he breaks his arm and hes suddenly JD Drew?? C'mon...It's football..things happen.

nah, the WTH moment is Cribbs.

Our return team was abysmal once Edelman got hurt. This seems like a solid move to me.

Didn't a guy fall on AH's ankle, too?

Anyway, Bedard says he's somewhat surprised at this move, too, but that Hooman might have some upside. We'll see, I guess.

I had a feeling Hooman would be brought back for around a mill. This is why I felt even though the cap situation is pretty good we're not really gonna save a ton aside from the Brady extension. Even role players and backups like Hooman, Woody/Edelman/Thomas (if they're brought back too) will take up a chunk of cap along with the rookies. Still got to be very careful with FA, even our own.

You forgot:
D) Costs 1.323 Million against the cap until such a decision is made.

Re: Here is your WTH momemt for the Pats

The patriots will NOT spend $25M of cap room anytime soon. If they need to find a million, there are lots of ways. A Mankins restructure gets us $3.75M. Besides, given the choice (which will be made in the preseason), I'd rather have Hooman than Fells.

If we really need the cap room, I would suggest cutting Fells.

So? It is not like it is a huge amount of money

Re: Here is your WTH momemt for the Pats

What does Hoomans tender entitle the Pats to in terms of a draft pick if someone else signs him ?

Nothing. It's only right of first refusal.

Getting a 5th rounder if they decide not to match another team's offer seems decent. The money against the cap isn't gonna break the bank. Good move.

It's an "original round tender." Normally, for an UDFA like Woodhead, that would be "nothing." But since Hoomanawanui was drafted in the fifth round, the Pats would get a fifth-rounder.

Thanks for the info.
Is that a 2013 or 2014 pick ?
