Held Hostage by the OT Position 2025

I just don’t get this Cole Strange support. I think he’s been a liability since day 1, his play and health is part of the reason why there is a big hole at the position. If he was reliable or any good they wouldn’t be trying to fill the position with someone better off the street or through the draft. Blows me away that going into his 4th year we are having this debate.
???
I think that Strange is an inexpensive LG for his last year and could start if Wilson isn't quite ready.

What I don't understand is why so many posters prefer Sow.

Who do YOU have as the backup to Wilson, presuming that you think that he is ready to start.

A great QB can still win with a weak oline
No. Didn’t you watch the SB? Patrick Mahomes lost cuz TRex Thuney was the liability at LT against Milton Williams.

Some of us are worried about our own TRex in Stubby Campbell.

I’d take Wilson, Wallace, Robinson over him right now.

Trapilo is taking reps due to injury. Marcus Bryant would be taking starter reps if Campbell got hurt, would that completely change the dynamic?

Chase Lundt is getting terrible write ups. Meanwhile Marcus Bryant getting 2nd team reps. Bryant is 6' 7" and 320 and Lundt is 6' 7" and 304.

Early returns suggest they got the developmental Tackle and the best one in the later rounds.

They were looking at Savaiinaea or Henderson and Henderson was left. The need for playmakers is as big or bigger than the need for a guard.

They drafted a LT #4 overall, they signed a 10-year vet for RT, they drafted a developmental tackle, they drafted Wilson who will start at guard and likely long-term center.
They turned over 3 of the 5-line positions. You can't argue they've not tried to address this, you can argue the people they chose but they spend a ton of time scouting and analyzing, way more than you or me, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

6% of 6th round picks and 4% of 7th round picks ever become starters. 3 of the final 64 picks will one day be starters on average, not great starters but starters. Not worth complaining about a kicker.
Taking a kicker in those rounds increases odds of success. It is far from inexcusable.

The take to not draft Drake Maye is just nutty at this point.
nutty and crazy silly

Similar concern. Third year. Maybe LT is upgraded enough. Probably not in obvious passing situations. And Morgan Moses playing most or all the season seems unlikely. So Onwenu gets moved out again?

I’ve had a Jerry Maguire moment. Instead of drafting shiny new toy Drake Maye, this important OL concern should have been addressed first.

Teams are built from the inside-out.
QB is the most important position on the field.

When you have a chance to get a keeper you do it.

How many beers did Sam buy you to join forces with him?

It breaks my heart—and it’s going to give Maye a bad thumping—that we didn’t “reach” for Ozzy Trapilo. I loved his dad.

Guy was huge. At BC I saw Steve walking around in a dorm carrying a full beer keg as if it were a Dunkins iced coffee.

The Jets took Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson when they had glaring holes on their OL

They learned. School of hard knocks.

Olu Fashanu is their franchise LT who is looking dominant at this time in TC. Even when they had a giant hole at QB.

And it turns out with Darnold that he’s a good QB. If he has protection.

It all starts up front.
We JUST drafted at LT @ #4 & a potential starting G/C in Wilson. Upgrades will be made. Vrabel just took over the team 5 months ago. No tackle in the last two drafts is more valuable than what we have in Maye. Relax.

That’s what the Jets thought too. Just wait until you see their impressive OL and bargain basement QB Justin Fields RPO us into crying uncle.

Wilson, Wallace and Robinson.

Sow’s rookie year was extremely good. Had a sophomore slump, maybe because new offense, bad coaching, maybe he was overated? Who knows? I trust the coaching he’ll get from Marrone and he’s also a better athlete like Wilson. Only way he would stick at LG is if Cambell was all world at LT and Wilson became the same at center. Sow has the athleticism to play lg but not the strength to take on bull rushes. He’s the back up to Onwenu unless proven otherwise. Wallace and Robinson have the strength and maybe not the athleticism? I don’t think Strange has either.

Last offseason we had people telling us the line was set up to be good. This year with actual talent across five positions we’re going to be bad? Stay healthy, develop the youth and they’ll be pretty good.

I learned from Wozzy that Wallace and Robinson never did the test for upper body strength at the Combine or their pro days. Probably because tge results in the 225 pound bench press we’re not going to be good.

Strange is very strong.

The Chiefs lost for a number of reasons.

1. They could not run the ball. 49 total rush yards and Mahomes had 25 of them. Pacheco was not 100% and Hunt is washed up.
2. When you move Thuney outside that created a hole inside.
3. RT was an issue all season.
4. The Eagles D was a bad matchup for any AFC team.
5. KC had a 3rd quarter 34 - 0 deficit forcing them into a 1 dimensional offense, but they could not run anyway.

Stay healthy, develop the youth
RT? 3/3/91 Morgan Moses? Did you read he rarely was in practice last season as a precaution?

He could stay healthy, but the chances are slim. Just sayin.

Who said that the 2024 OL was going to be good?

Yea not a preference per se but the word potential comes to mind re: Sow.

In 2023 Sow as a rookie was pretty decent especially as a run blocker. If he can regain his form and improve as a pass blocker hes right there with Strange.

The problem is he wasn't healthy last year nor is he this year. Time might be running out for him.

Were you right behind him carrying the pony keg?

come on man, thats more than a bit unfair to Thuney... Thuney has been playing Guard since he entered the NFL, 9 years prior... he played LT because of injury... least be fair to him
Some of us are worried about our own TRex in Stubby Campbell.
"welcome to the NFL" learning curve... right now, he's susceptible to inside pressure, same as he was in college... hes trying to figure out the balance of setting the hard edge on the outside and inside moves... its something he needs to work on, but damn man the amount of disrespect hes getting is ********...

He hasn't played a single snap and you are tossing him on the trash heap...

Correct. They addressed the line and have a lot of work to do. I think some people thought that means we would be fielding the early 90’s Cowboys line.

I do feel at the very least they have future stars at LG and Center. Ideally,if Cambell can play some excellent LT this year than that’s even better. If not, there’s a pretty good class of tackles next year. At any rate, the line is improved vs last years disaster. How much, we’ll find out?
