That's a BS argument. What they saw at TC and in pre-season led them to believe that they couldn't play Tebow. They gave a rookie Geno Smith ample opportunity to beat out Sanchez, yet he couldn't really get it going. Now he's hurt and they have no choice.

If I remember correctly Sanchez got benched for the 3rd stringer last year (tebow was out injured) who also sucked. The fact is you can go all tin foil hat conspiracy theory or you can come to the SIMPLE conclusion.

Tebow didn't show enough in pre-season or in practice or in the limited snaps he got to EARN more PT.

I do not envy those faithful to Tebow, they’re in a predicament similar to those of who have had a loved one addicted to drugs, they’ve gone to rehab time and time again, but you hold out hope that they can be that child or significant other that you remember 5 or 10 years ago, but eventually you have to concede the fact that no matter what you say or what you do that person is what they are a junkie and unlikely to change, well Tebow faithful is approaching that point where you are going to be forced to make that determination do you want to keep holding out hope and face repeated disappointment or do you just want to accept Tebow is what he is not a good NFL quarterback. That is not to say Tebow is hopeless, a junkie can take it upon themselves to change, but they will never be that person you remember again they will be different but they could be contributing members of society, well Tebow can do something similar in my opinion he can make a decision to make changes on his own and that is a different position than quarterback, he will not be the player you all remember and hold out hope he can be from that Steelers game but at he could be a contributing member of a NFL team. This may not have been the best analogy but hopefully you get my point just the same.

Very well put, I'm not sure I agree 100% but well thought out.

It most likely is nostalgia (though for me it is his time in college) that keeps me hanging around. That and maybe a sick bit of internet masochism in hanging around forums where you are generally not wanted (more last year, that was hilarious)

That's a BS argument.

Especially considering the fact that Ryan is coaching for his job this year. If Tebow is better than Sanchez and Sanchez is better that Geno (he is) then Ryan just cut off his nose to spite his face.

The fact is you can go all tin foil hat conspiracy theory or you can come to the SIMPLE conclusion.

Seriously.

I was joking everyone relax..I think like everything with the jets things get muddled. Rex asked him to gain 20 pounds, he did, that sapped his speed. he looked like a defensive end last year, it was ridiculous. Its not an excuse its Tebow's fault he let it happen.

Then the genius of Sparano's constant up the middle line bucks were ridiculous. there was absolutely zero creativity, again its not an excuse, its Tebow's fault for choosing the bumbling Jets to begin with.

I also do think rex's man love for Sanchez did figure in on some level but I digress.

Of all Tebow fans I empathies and even excuses your bias the most, you knew him and went to the same college, you were part of the Tebow culture down there, I actually went to Lynn University for flight training down and Tebow was a ******* iconic figure like Batman, so I understand you following his career and having a vested interest in his success. Unfortunately I’m not so sure you will be pleased with the outcome, but I do hope he rights his ship to some degree, because Tebow in the NFL on some capacity is a positive and can only add to the brand. My belief is he could potentially be a Mike Alstott type RB/FB if he committed to it full time.

His in game performances have... left something to be desired. I can not argue against that. Won't even. But I think he still has potential, that's all I can say really. It won't ever be enough for you, or the others. You will scream that he doesn't belong until he is out of the NFL all together, or at the very least off the Pats.
The following offensive players currently on the New England Patriots roster don't have potential?

QB (2): Brady, Mallett
RB (6): Ridley, Vereen, Blount, Washington, Bolden, Develin
TE (5): Gronkowski, Fells, Hoomanawanui, Ballard, Sudfeld
WR (6): Amendola, Edelman, Thompkins, Dobson, Boyce, Slater
OT (4): Solder, Vollmer, Cannon, Svitek
OG (2): Mankins, Connolly
OC (2): Wendell, Stankiewitch

I'd say points allowed can be seen as a team stat and not just a defensive stat... that's why you can't look at points alone to measure a D. Turnovers by the offense, how good your kicker/punter is, and how good your special teams coverage is will all have a major impact in how many points a defense will allow. If Tom Brady was a QB that threw a lot of picks...or even an average amount of picks... it's not likely that the Patriots D would be anywhere near the top of the stat chart in points allowed.

As I said before I like to look at a defense by seeing how well they are at making big stops and big plays. All great defenses can make big stops and big plays. I'm talking forcing turnovers, making sacks and stopping the other team on 3rd down. The 2011 Steelers were good at none of those despite a very weak schedule, and that's why I'm still not impressed even when someone says they were "#1".

I also like to look at Yards Allowed Per Play. As opposed to points, that metric falls entirely on the defense. The 2011 Patriots were ranked 29th in the league in that metric plus near the bottom of the league on 3rd down conversions allowed. What makes that more egregious is the fact that more time spent on the field by the defense is less time for #12 and that hurts the Patriots both ways.

I already stated that one of the differences between a "good" defense and a "great" defense is that they can make big stops. If you look back over what I've said about the Pats defense in 2011, I never said they were GREAT. I said that they were better than many of you give them credit for, especially in the playoffs.

Did I say that? I swore I was talking about Tebow.. Listen, I've said it before and I will say it again. I am not a huge NFL fan, I do not spend time looking over roster sheets or draft boards, I readily admit this. You have been following the Patriots far longer than I. All those guys do have potential, I'm sure. Or they wouldn't be on the roster. Just like Tebow.

There are still 75 players on the roster as of today, one of which is Tebow. I believe it has been said by BB that 80% of the roster is set? Please correct that if I am wrong. That means 20% is still up in the air, I will assume Tebow is part of that 20% and fighting with other players for one of those spots..

We can argue all we want on the internet, in about 4 days from now, we will know exactly what happens. I can't wait. Whether Tim makes it or not, I will be here. To take what comes. It could mean I have to endure endless "WOOHOO TEBOW IS GONE" threads, or maybe "WTF IS BB DOING, TEBOW MAKES THE ROSTER!!! GTFO!" threads.

I will hang around to make sure that you guys have at least one Tebow fan to make fun of when that happens. Or I'll be one of many laughing... hard.

That's a flawed interpretation. From the day Tebow was signed by the Jets, Rex was adamant that Sanchez was the #1 and that wasn't going to change. There wasn't a QB competition for Tebow to win. Tanny and Rex had just signed Sanchez to a nice big contract extension.

By all rights, the Jets SHOULD have had an open competition after the way Sanchez finished out 2011. Then again, Sanchez should have been benched much earlier in the 2012 season, no matter how the #2 QB looked in camp or in practice.

Also, you have to take into account how 2011 played out in Denver. There, Orton got benched, Tebow came in and suddenly Denver started winning games.

WTF was Rex going to do if after all that time of coddling Sanchez, Tebow came in and won ? Week after week of saying that Sanchez gave them the best opportunity. Week after week of watching Sanchez gift points to the opponents and otherwise SUCK. He would have looked like even more of an idiot than normal.

You talk about how there's a competition this year, as if that has some bearing on what happened last year. I seem to recall that Tanny got fired, there's a new GM and Rex is on the chopping block. In short, Rex had no other choice this year than for their to be a QB competition. Even now though, many over at the Jets forums are screaming about how he's still slanting things for Sanchez.

I am not going anywhere. I'll take my lumps right along side of you.

I have said it before the Patriots organization is a class act, and have some of the smartest fans I have ever associated with on internet boards (and I belong to many its not an idle complement).

Tim Tebow is currently just 1 of 75 players currently on the roster. Tim Tebow has not "earned" any special privileges.

Ah, the Sanchez conspiracy card.

let me ask all the detractors...is there any chance Tebow plays really good Thursday and changes your opinion? or is there nothing he can do at this point?

More pathetic excuses!

What the current excuse for Tim Tebow with the New England Patriots?

I do not recall hearing anyone but you say that...

Ah, the Sanchez conspiracy card.

Take a look over at JI, or go back to last year when Sanchez was sucking. Even large numbers of Jets fans were saying the same thing. Hell, people were screaming for "Anyone but Sanchez" to be the starter yet Rex kept sending Sanchez out there.
