I agree. Its funny... when people love a player they hang on to anything to make themselves feel better. Whether its Tebow or Quinn or Flutie or a myriad of other players (not just QB's) that "remind" them of someone great. He looks like Walter Payton or he reminds me of Marino ... chances are the reason youre picking HOF'ers instead of mediocre or even worse players is that you are personally invested in said player.

Why cant tebow be the next VY or the next Flutie? Why does he have to be Young? Because then he you would have to admit your hero is an average joe.

So they blame the coaches, media, other players, offensive systems or whatever to move blame from the fact the guy they love just plain cant hack it.

He didn't get first team reps, he didn't have the right plays called, the offense wasn't right, the coach didn't like him... the sirens call of all those that have failed in the league.

the reason Young was brought up is because a poster here decided to make a stand on the notion that teams don't bring in a "26 year old journeyman QB" and try to develop him. That this is Tebow's 4th year in the NFL and he's passed that point.

It just so happens that San Fran did exactly that with Steve Young. He had 2 miserable years as a starter in Tampa Bay, but many forget that he had 2 years as a Pro QB in the USFL before that. Bill Walsh and San Fran traded for him and DEVELOPED him as a QB. In his first year at San Fran, he celebrated his 26th birthday not long after the season started.

So, the facts of the matter are that Steve Young was an example of a team taking an "old journeyman QB and developing him, even after he had looked terrible as the starter on another team.

Of course it doesn't mean that Tebow will be like Steve Young and become a HoF QB. But it does show that sometimes, it might be worth the risk/investment to at least try.

Tebow earned a spot as washroom attendant. That's about it. Maybe he can work his way up to stadium sweeper.

So, we didn't lose much when we went from 2nd to last (Kafka) to Tebow?
What is your endgame?

To turn back the clock to 1990 during the Rod Rust era just so poor little Timmy Tebow can be quarterback of the New England Patriots.

well....while I was out on Block Island (Celebrity Isle) today I ran into Tom Jackson and asked him what he thought of this thread...and this is what he had to say...

"They HATE their thread....."

Is that a super fancy butt-plug?

JUST KIDDING!! Looks delicious!

Actually, once you finish draining the bottle of it's extremely delicious contents, and you are under the influence of said contents, you take that bottle and you shove it up someone else's rear end. Preferably, someone who gets on your nerves quite a bit.

It kind of acts as a multiplier on bringing down your blood pressure

And yes, it's insanely delicious

I get he's your guy. Kaepernick is my Tebow... believe me I have been screaming from the Mountaint Top about how good I think he can be. So I really do get your love for Tim ... but the one thing I never do is say, "hes just like or he could be the next"... (insert player here) because inevitably youre never going to pick a scrub... its always going to be Joe Montana or brady or manning because that's what you believe he can be. If you just stay with your hopes and dreasm for tebow youll be fine. leave the HOF comparisons alone.

I appreciate the advice Suddy. It would really be appropriate if I was actually running around saying that Tebow could be the next <insert HoF'er here>.

Thing is, you won't find a single instance of me doing that. Now, what I have done is to use other QBs to demonstrate how seriously flawed some people's arguments are. Like when one poster here went on and on about how a sub 50% comp % in a QBs first year of starting showed that he wasn't a real NFL QB. To counter such a claim, I would point out that Eli Manning's comp % was less than 50% his first year.

Some people mistakenly conclude that I'm comparing/equating Tebow with Manning when I do that. This isn't the case. What it's doing is showing that the underlying premise of their argument was flawed. Basic Logic 101.

You don't know WHY they voted yes. You are making PRESUMPTIONS.
How about a FACT?

Tim Tebow is DEAD LAST in passer completion percentage to date during the 2013 NFL Preseason.

Made sense when this was posted in reply the first time you said that, so here it is again.

The New England Patriots should resort to the level of pass offense futility unseen during the modern football era?

I said wash room attendant before but I will concede that if tebow does really well in the final game, I mean really well, nopasses in the dirt 5 yards from a receiver, no passes 5 yards over someone's head to a waiting defender, greater than 50% completion, passer rating of 50 or so, well then and only then could I see tebow being given a job as a ball boy or gatorade filler upper on the sideline.

But that is a HUGE if.

Actually I take that back. He is such a talentless player I don't want him within 50 yards of the players, lest his uselessness rub off. The best I could see for him is one of those parking lot guys who waves people around with a stick to tell them where to park. And again that's only if he has a GREAT day on thursday.

Ivan and tip give a rest will you. Both of You have made your points and we get it. Anyways whoever said that bill saw something on Brady to keep him as a 4th qb was right wow. I was listening to Weei on my phone and Brady said the exact samething. He even said that its rare to carry a 4th qb on your team.

Might look at things a bit differently if Tebow were being brought in to replace Brady as the starter this season. But, last I checked, he was #3 on the depth chart.

You can count, can't you ? <FYI: #3 is below both #1 and #2 >

Seriously everyone needs to relax. This is getting ridiculous. This is not making us pats fans look good at all. Anyways all bill is doing is giving Tebow a chance. That is it. He is not replacing Brady. He just saw a kid with potential that he wants to see if he can fix. End of story.

Wow. I just let that statement speak for it's self .

I researched last year's New England Patriots roster; the New England Patriots did not fall apart without a third string quarterback.

I understand your point. But I also see the other side. Even if you're only using young as the example youre setting him up as the expectation for tebow. If I say don't think about a pink elephant because it has nothing to do with this thread what do you do? You think of a pink elephant even though I said its not relevant. The same goes when the one example you can come up with happens to be a HOF qb the singular exception to the rule you are so desperate for tebow to break. I don't know how tebows career will pan out but I'll bet 100 bucks it doesn't end in the HOf like young. My money's on the end being more like Griese, Quinn, etc... Talented college kids that just didn't quite have it in the nfl. No shame in that... Certainly further than I ever took my football career!

I hope Tebow plays lights out and dominates the Giants. Exhibition game or not I'm sick of watching my team lose to them.

True. Then again they didn't make it to the SB. But, if you go back to the last time the Pats did carry 3 QBs on the roster, in 2011, they DID.
