Grossman QB rating of 1.3, Bears total offense 107 yards...

Last week the NFL seemed quirkier than usual, Bengals over the Ravens, Buffalo almost taking out San Diego, Tennessee beating Indy, Cleveland over KC and the almost upset by the Lions. This is the vision of Rozelle, that on any given Sunday.

While many of us are upset at the way our offense is playing, and have concerns for what will happen in the playoffs consider the Chicago game.
They won 23-13, on the strength of a ST td, a D td, a safety and one O td. The total offensive yards for the Bears was 107, and their time of possession was 20.39 minutes... REX GROSSMAN HAD A QB RATING OF 1.3 WITH ONLY 24 NET YARDS GAINED.

Another example, although not as good as the one above is Houston Vs. Oakland, Oakland is not a defensive juggernaut. The Texans won 23-14 on 3 FG's, one defensive score and one O TD. Their total yards gained was 124, time of possession was 26.14 minutes.. DAVID CARR HAD A QB RATING 56.2 WITH A TOTAL OF -5 YARD GAINED.

The Titans win over the Colts does not have the same glaring discrepancies, however when a team with a 4-7 record, beats a team with a 10-1 record there are comparisons to the point being made.

While many of us are concerned about how this offense is playing and all of its subleties, it seems that the NFL that Rozelle dreamed of is taking shape that on any given Sunday there is enough parity that any team can play well against another. As we are getting ready to end the season and begin to think of the playoffs, it seems that the team who is playing best will have a very good shot.

We have seen two mistake filled, lackluster performances by our O, our D is beginning to look a little short on talent, and has made a ton of adjustments.. the next couple of weeks will tell our direction, if we keep on winning "better" than we have lately, then we stand as good a chance as anyone to go all the way. Every team has its shortcomings, and on any given Sunday as this is the NFL.

The Bears' knack for pulling wins out via defense and special teams confounds me, and I think continuing with Grossman will eventually kill them in the playoffs. Whoever wins the NFC will be the Super Bowl's sacrificial lamb, and it looks now like San Diego has the inside track to go all the way. As far as our Pats go, our own weak spots -- defensive backfield and wide receiver -- will be hard to overcome come playoff time.

Lovey Smith was quoted as saying that Grossman has led the Bears to 10 wins, there is no QB controversy in Chicago, and Grossman is the guy. Kind of hard for Rex to be benched in favor of Kyle Orton, but I'd respect Dallas more right now than Chicago as an NFC foe.

I agree with Lovie to stick with Grossman . . . Orton QB rating on his best day is 1.1 / 1.2 tops

I think the only reason they want to keep Grossman is that neither Orton nor Griese have the potential to be great, because they've already been tried and tested. But keep in mind that like Garcia on the Eagles, Griese has had some EXTREMELY good years at QB. People said, ah Garcia won't do anything with the Eagles, well, he definitely hasn't been bad. Griese and Garcia both lost starting jobs due to in-ju-ry. Grossman and Orton just aren't good. There's a difference. I can't believe people are thinking of starting Orton at all, and I can't believe they're continuing to start Grossman over Griese.

I can. You dance with the date who brung ya. Changing quarterbacks at this point may do more harm than good. Yes, Grossman looks to be a liability for the Bears, but he's also posted some good numbers in other games (on the year he's thrown more tds than ints). Griese and/or Orton have zip for reps with the first team offense in Chicago and bringing either in for a trial now might prove more costly than sticking with the status quo.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Griese get playing time if Chicago clinches home field in the playoffs - that makes sense to rest your starters. But to replace Grossman now, with only four games left in the season (and yes, 10 wins under his belt), just doesn't seem wise.

I'm not defending Grossman, mind you. I think he's a time bomb. I'm defending Lovie Smith's decision.

Griese, IMO, does not offer much more than Grossman.

Its not that I don't like Grossman either. I like his attitude. It seems like he will get better. But how much better? Would it help or hurt the Bears if their opponents took a knee on every down offensively?

But hey, I don't like the Bears. I don't want to hear hype about them, I've thought they were overrated all year long. One of the commentators said he predicted the bears would win the superbowl over the patriots 52-10, and grossman would be the MVP, 4 weeks ago or something. They can play anyone they want, but if they want to have a shot this year, just put the better quarterback in. Griese has thrown 8 cold passes this year and is 7-for-8 on them, so I don't see any indicator he can't beat a 1.3 rating (and terrible rating over the last month) or that he can't play in this scheme.

Grossman is falling apart at the seams. The Bears clinched their division title already since the teams in their division and the NFC in general are just putrid. But how FAR do you think they'll make it with Rex at the helm? The Bears defense is great but Grossman will end up costing them a game somewhere down the line, and maybe when it hurts most.

That's right, they have Brian Griese too, don't they. He's been given up on more than a one legged pole vaulter though.
