Gronkowski Likely Facing Penalty From NFL After Hit On Sunday

I don't think he deserves to be suspended, but it wouldn't surprise me.

However, people thinking he will miss the Pittsburgh game need to join us in the real world. Miami is up next.

Hopefully it will shine some light on how they call a different game for him than anyone else in the NFL.

Optimistic outlook, but hope is a terrible strategy. It would be good for the owner to step in and protect his coach and player(s) (who can't directly criticize) and begin a very vocal and public outcry of just that discrepancy.

I am not sure Kraft will however.

Yes it is a first offense but what a first offense. I would suspend him a game for the hit. I would also suspend the other guys who people are talking about as examples why he won't be suspended. A defenseless player who is on his stomach out of bounds and hit well after the play. What ever happens Gronk brought it on himself and it hurt the team. I guarantee the league will suspend him and not for the hit but to hit the Patriots and to appease both owners and others who will cry hey he didn't get suspended because he is white (I believe the entire Brady episode was because of these two factors, to appease owners and players who were complaining Brandon Marshall: White players treated differently when it comes to NFL discipline ).

this is an interesting concept...so you think it's a "whute privelege" thing going on and this justifies the way Gronk has been treated like a criminal the past few seasons? Brady was treated better than Ray Rice? Really? So, destroy Gronk's knees because "white privelege"?

If this is so, then maybe it's time to segregate the league.

But we all agree the defender pushed off to make that INT, right?

No I think the league is trying to prove to players like Marshal it is not racist by taking an opportunity to hit the Patriots which makes other owners happy and had the opportunity to say hey we went after the biggest player (Brady) and now they will say the same with Gronk. Big difference is Brady was 100% innocent while Gronk is not. If all things were equal, Gronk won't get suspended. I think he will. Again if I were running the league he would get suspended but so would those other players.

As far as Gronk continually getting shafted in calls, he is a men among boys and the reffs just feel like tough.

as not only a lifelong fan of the NFL, but a 6 plus decade participant in our society, I cannot agree with this. The ref is supposed to ref...without bias. Period.

A defenseless player who is on his stomach out of bounds and hit well after the play.

If he gets suspended that's the key point. The league already legislates (or tries to) hits to the head area and hits to defenseless plays *during* play; the may (and should) look less favorably on such a hit outside of the whistles. Gronk is not a dirty player by any means, but I do think he temporarily lost his mind here, and did so in a way that will get a lot of attention.

Of course, the league has been horrendously inconsistent (arguably incompetent) re/ it's on-field discipline. ALL of the outside-the-whistle shenanigans should be dealt with severely IMO....the league suspends Brady 4 games for footballs, and deals out less cumulative punishment to a ticking time bomb in Burfict. Makes zero sense.

So in the end I don't think Gronk will be suspended, but I do think outside-the-whistle plays like this should result in suspensions.

It goes without saying that what Gronk did was despicable and without excuse. The whole problem is what the process is going to be.

I find unbelievable that there isn't a Standard Procedure to stuff like this in the NFL. I mean, fights happen in Football, no matter what level you play, we really shouldn't be wondering how Gronk's action should be punished (And it should).

Then again, We'll never have a standard procedure, because the NFL won't act fairly. This system is kinda f**** up

This is also the issue with Cam Newton

Some think that Gronk should have been ejected.

...inside the whistle if PI is called as it should have been, there is no "outside the whistle" incident. It's what Corrente didn't call that is the REAL key here but, well, it'll be "aw shucked" just like Tomlin tripping an opposing player was.

Yikes! That looked bad. I hate to say it but we'll be lucky if he only gets fined. Fingers crossed.

That's the point of my last phrase Arch... Can we trust the NFL to implement this table? I can't ...
