The NFL is already dead. If you read that article in the NYT from the wife of a player who played 5 years it’s over. I enjoy watching the game but would never want anyone I cared about to play. I played at a high level through college and am worried myself now. I had concussions and lost consciousness 2x. One time I was just out while the other I just woke up somewhere without knowing how I got there. I was walking and responding but have no memory I think Brady is a fool for playing still.
Yea i wouldn't let my kids play football with all the new studies out now
The other reason is that there is still a culture of people who are out there trying to hurt people, and until that is reigned in I would never consider it
My wife's good friends husband is an insanely muscular dude that plays Semi Pro football in new York.. he works out like it's a religion and is built like a steroided out linebacker
Against the Jags in the AFCCG he was saying on Facebook something like "Hahaha, time to go nite nite Gronky" and was taking pleasure in the illegal hit knocking him out of the game
He did the same thing last night laughing at Cooks, with something like "hahaha, keep your head on a swivel Cooks... nap time now, nite nite" and posts constantly about playing that style of football
I had a tenant I was renting to and we got into talking about football and how we both played back in the day, and I made a comment about how the sport is inherently dangerous and people will get hurt, but I don't respect the players that intentionally make dirty hits to injure players
His response was that he and a few guys on defense spent time every game intentionally trying to injure other players with spearing, etc... he was legitimately confused by my stance on the issue and was bragging/proud about being a head Hunter
No way I would expose my kid to that these days... you have some people out there playing by the rules, playing the game hard... but then you have some others that are out there head hunting and all it takes is 1 Neanderthal who's father is like my wife's friend to go out there and put your kid in a wheelchair, or give them massive head trauma that will hinder them the rest of their lives... or worse, kills them
Football is a violent sport and I have nothing against someone laying a big hit on someone else as long as it's within the rules of the game with respect to the players health. There are still a lot of head hunters out there tho that play dirty and pride themselves on it... the game is dangerous enough within the rules, but that type of mentality/culture just takes it to a more dangerous and unnecessary level.
I think there were 4 or 5 highschool players that died playing football last year. It's really not worth it.
