Gostkowski Placed on Injured Reserve
By: Ian Logue

Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski reportedly suffered a "thigh strain" during Sunday's loss to the Cleveland Browns, but apparently the injury must be more severe than most first thought....

Thats one hell of a leg strain.

This is a family board so I can't post the words I really want to, so use your imagination.

son of an itch! mother fudging malechicken gobbling bull poop! Ga'll darn it to heck!!

In other words: I'm slightly upset.

I love Gostkowski but I am not getting too worked up a kicker going to the IR.

Shayne Graham will be fine.

We'll get the Gost back next year.

In another roster move - one with far less significance - the Pats have signed a corner to take Tyrone McKenzie's place on the Practice Squad.

CB Turner signed to practice squad - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

The Patriots filled the final spot on their eight-man practice squad by signing cornerback Thad Turner on Wednesday.

Turner (5-11, 188 pounds) was originally signed by the Colts as a rookie free agent out of Ohio, where he was a teammate of Patriots third-round draft choice Taylor Price. He was waived by the Colts on Aug. 12.

Turner was a two-year starter at Ohio, beginning his career as a receiver before switching to cornerback as a sophomore. As a senior, he had 60 tackles, 34 solo, six passes defensed and one interception.

The Patriots had an open practice squad spot after releasing linebacker Tyrone McKenzie on Saturday.

Patriots' practice squad:
QB Jonathan Crompton
CB Tony Carter
S Ross Ventrone
OT Steve Maneri
OL Thomas Austin
TE Carson Butler
CB Thad Turner
DL Lorenzo Washington

"Thigh strain?" Belichick would probably have described Custer's Last Stand as "a challenging battle...those Indians really had their act together."

I think this could be a big loss to the Pats. Both in terms of field goals and field position on kickoffs. I foresee a lot of close games on the horizon, many in which the kicking game could shift the balance. Another bad omen, methinks. But i hope i'm wrong.

"The Indians have a great hoard. They are strong in all three phases of the battle: scouting, infantry, and cavalry. They have solid chiefs, good discipline, strong at the point of attack. We have our work cut out for us."

Gotta say as a PS observer the 2010 PS is the least impressive collection of developing talent in recent memory.
