yeah I agree with you that the guilty verdict came from the top with this. I've always felt that Roger was simply carrying water for the owners but after reading this piece I wonder if he was actually the one who piled on the punishment after Brady refused to admit guilt and show remorse.

It's amazing that someone would do this to such a class act. It's just hard to believe Brady will serve 4 games. It just doesn't seem right that goodell will get away with this. Amazing what happens in the world and sometimes it's disappointing.

Yup. It was a pretty disgusting article to read. They lie at every turn. Hargroves account was the best. Telling him he didn't meet with the guy he knows he met with.

    It's worse than the mob.

Also, nice spell checking Peter. How does this happen in an SI article?

", Stallworth flew back to New York unannounced and went to straight to the league office"

    I didn't imbed the link because it's 1st post.

    It's very telling.

Roger thinks Brady did it and that's all he needs. He doesn't need to be fair.

He learned from the Ray Rice story to make sure you leak information that appears in your favor and get the media on your side first.

    Might makes right.

So the way I see it, you've got a bunch of owners who think the Patriots are cheaters because they always seem to know what the next play call is or they always seem to know how to get away with rule book "irregularities" or maybe they're just tired of losing plain and simple so they're cheaters. My son has told me about teams like that when I pick him up from his games and his team lost.

So when story about Jackson intercepting the ball in the AFC Championship game comes out these same owners say something like "we've finally got those ****ers. Roger, go investigate and make sure they don't wiggle through your fingers this time".

Roger calls Kraft and tells him the bad news, he's got to lay the lumber on his team. Even though he doesn't want to, he's got to do it blah, blah, blah.

Kraft listens and says... I actually have no idea what he says to this but Roger puts the discipline machine in motion by calling Ted Wells and tells him that The Patriots were found cheating again, we just need some facts to back it up in case this thing goes to a real court.

Brady shows up to his first meeting with Roger and says I didn't do anything. Roger says okay I thought you might say that. I'll give you one more chance and after you've thought on it for a while you might figure out that you actually did. So a few weeks go by and Brady shows up to the second meeting and Roger asks him if he's changed his mind an Brady says no Roger I didn't do anything.

At that point Roger's head explodes. He thinks how could Tom be so arrogant to not admit guilt to something Roger himself knows is true because 31 owners even said was true. Duh?

So he throws the book at him and gives him the most over the top ridiculous punishment in the history of mankind not just for deflating those balls but also for defying his authority.

Then comes the final piece that that I haven't quite figured, and it's kind of gnawing a bit.

If Roger actually dished out this punishment at least partly due to his ego then why would Kraft not direct his anger or at least some of his anger at Roger?

I mean if you listen to Kraft it's presumably all about the how the other owners did him dirty, but Roger's doing a great job.

    What?

Authoritarian, Micro Manager, Delegator, Dictator - these are all valid management styles. The trick is to know which to apply given the situation.
