Godchaux Speaks Out on his contract

Getting Marcus Smart vibes from this dude. Good player, but too high maintenance and values himself too highly for what he brings to the table.
Yep. That's why watts and the other kid from Dallas we signed are going to be chomping at the bit should he sit out.. he's not a game changer like peppers or judon are.

Watts is the guy that could replace him in the line up should he sit out. Godchaux is a solid player up front for us.. but he's not a game changer..
good call, as is T Hill, but a good team needs 3 guys at the least, playing 40-60% of the snaps and staying fresh.
God is very capable on the field for what the Pats want and need. his deal is also fair for both sides.

Yes, hill, watts and white also plays inside as well. We are pretty deep up front.. I like goddy.. he sets the LOS up front.. but he's definitely being fairly compensated for the level of player he is.

BIG space eating DT's like RB's are no longer hard to find: dime a dozen.
I disagree with that, because most DT's aren't built like that anymore. They are lighter and want to rush upfield. Also, offenses aren't built for ground and pound, thus eliminate the need for the space eaters like a Wilfork.

Agreed, I'm not sure he is worth a huge amount more. Would he get more on the open market?
The issue is how production over the next 4 years.

He should draw a lot of interest.

The compromise will likely be an increase for this year and negotiations in the next off-season.

I would note that Godchaux seems to have started the negotiations after Barmore got his contract. I expect the team would be OK with waiting. Judon is next and much, much more important.

Guy out, Watts in

who was the other player "from Dallas"?

Yes, we need to decide whether we want a true NT like Godchaux. If not, then we should definitely move on after the season. If we want to have a true NT for the next 3-4 years, we should extend Godchaux.

Really? GO ahead and list all the ones who are still looking for a job that are as good as Godchaux.

Godchaux isn't a true "NT". He's undersized and has been since Bill signed him. He's played well, but hasn't out-played his contract.

I am sure K White is going to be a force rushing for the Inside this year. I think our Defense is going to be very good baring you know.

Watts has been more of a pass rusher in the inside. I could easily see the Pats using WHITE on one side of Barmore, Watts on the other with Judon on the far outside..

Don’t get what the big deal is. He states he wants to get something done before the season…and wants to retire here. Not that he’s unhappy…looking for a trade etc. Why shouldn’t he be looking out for himself in this day and age where you don’t have to trod into the bosses office to let them know you’d like a raise? If he said he’s not going to play then sure it’s an issue. Sure we aren’t use to players doing this since things were so hush hush before….different regime so we are probably going to be seeing this more. He’s not throwing a temper tantrum….yet.

It will be interesting to see where he plays because Barmore will now take Guy's spot in the starting lineup. Wise is already the starter on the line. White will either be fighting for time against Wise on the line or Jennings/Uche on the edge. He's kind of in no man's land.

I think White is going be a Beast!

I'd rather give players like Pharms Jr. and Sam Roberts the playing time than him. He too old and not worth the money that he's probably seeking. There will be better and younger options just in FA alone, not to mention somewhere in the 2025 Draft.

He's not worth extending for 3-4 years, and certainly not at the money that he'll be expecting.

One of those "He's good because Bill said he's good" guys. Show up or don't. Who cares? He is a run stuffer in a league that doesn't run.

Agreed. Goddy is a solid player and he does play the run excellent. However he's not a game changer. Trysten hill, watts are young guys that I'd rather see. Watts is a younger more explosive player at the same position. Of course wolf and Mayo know this.. so Godchaux may get I'd say a slight " bump" for this season and he may be gone in the offseason. I was suprised he got the exte he did get before. Outside of judon, peppers is the guy we need to be extending Everyone else can wait until the off season.

Beast-more was already in the starting line up.. if anything I'd say watts or trysten hill could man that position. I really like watts. Explosive first step, excellent hands, can play inside and outside.

I see a lot of "anyone can do his job" type comments... okay.

Armon Watts was a situational pass rusher from the DE position last year, not a nose tackle. I don't get where this perception is coming from. He has been on three different teams the last three years. The last time he started was two years ago when he started 12 games for the 2022 Bear's D, they ranked 31st worst in rush attempts, 31st worst in rush yards, dead last in rushing TD's and 27th worst in yards per attempt. The year before that he started 9 games for the Vikings and they were no better. Stop saying Armon Watts is a nose tackle, or even a run stuffer because he's not. I can place my body in the middle of a highway, it doesn't make me a traffic cone.

Pharms? Good grief... the guy blows. He was 6'1" 274 pounds when he entered the league. He has never started a game. He's been in the league since 2020 and last season was the first time he has been active for an actual game.

The only guys who can possibly play NT are Daniel Ekuale, Trysten Hill or Sam Roberts.

Trysten Hill is a supremely talented athlete at the DT position, unfortunately we've been waiting five years for this talent to emerge and for him to become a dominant force. He has never reached his potential since being drafted in the second round back in 2019, he started five games back in 2020 and wasn't good. But now we want to trade or cut our Nose Tackle and leave the job to this guy?

Ekuale is already 30 years old, he hasn't started a game since 2020. He played 9% of defensive snaps in year one for us, peaked at 32% in 2022, dropped to 5% of defensive snaps last year. The guy is a jag whose utility primarily lays on special teams.

For reference Godchaux has played roughly 60% of defensive snaps for three year's straight. The Pats defense ranked #4 and #1 in yards per rushing attempt the last two years. Suggesting anyone can do the job, or the NFL is no longer a rushing league, or Godchaux only has a job because BB liked him is absurd fan nonsense.

I was critical of the Godchaux signing when it was made, I panned it... now I'm saying we need him back, until we find a replacement at least. Extend him for another season or two, he's not that expensive for the amount of snaps he plays and how well he plays. Two gapping isn't "easy" and it's thankless work that casual football fans don't understand or appreciate at all.

If they can't come to an agreement they'd better be ready at the cutdown day with a big wad of cash in hand to find his replacement, because that person isn't here right now.
