Since you say stats are irrelevant then let's forget about it and look at reality.
The defense couldn't stop the jets and our offense didn't even get a chance to get on the field, plus we didn't even get a chance to decide which end to defend, which wasn't even important because the weather was good and the kickers were doing well. At least if we receive we get one possession. And since our defense was playing well they get a few minutes to rest and make any adjustments. If this was a playoff game we would have to wait 6 months to play football again. At least give the offense and ourselves a chance, even if they sucked, let them try, that's the only obvious thing about this.
I look at the reality Pats offense had one drive all day when they moved the ball. That drive the Jets didn't attack like they did all game long and let the Pats have more time. Still took 4th down conversions to even get that chance. The Pats defense was playing much better than the offense.
Pats took ball against Denver and went 3 and out and gave Denver a short field to work. Belichick was relying on his defense to get a stop and the defense failed to stop. The game is played with 3 units and need all three units to win. The offense massively failed in regulation.
