Excellent breakdown of the play by Chris Forsberg:

Breakdown: Carter's second sack - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

"......The key thing to note here: Look at the triple team that Albert Haynesworth draws. For all the attention paid to his lack of statistical production, this really hammers home his value on the field. The Cowboys could have used one of those linemen to come help out as Carter rushes in, but Haynesworth manages to push all three Dallas players backwards while fighting his way toward Romo...."

I just re-watched that game .. Fat Al deserves props, he was just disruptive and powerful .. What really stood out to me was the "Enthusiasm and Energy" from the entire unit ..

BIG High Five Indeed!!

Related pondering: how much did their knowledge of a former division rival play a role in our D's stout performance?

We'll never know but I am hoping that though it could be sizable, it was not that significant; i.e. our D's performance is the way it is shaping out to be due to their own strengths and chemistry, and not due to extra bits of info on how to overcome the Dallas OL.

I agree, 100%. The energy was way up and the Patriots had an excellent push front Wilfork / Love / Haynesworth.

Also I noticed a lot of communication across the entire unit.

Ninkovich was really getting a good jam on Whitten. Front seven looked very good.

McCourty seems to have lost a step, and is beaten routinely. Maybe he was a nagging injury.

I have no doubts that Al is one of the best DL in the league when he WANTS to be that type of player....you just need him to be motivated and WANT to be that way and WANT to love the game of football and be the best.

I was impressed the last two weeks after his return,I think Wilfork and his 'energy' on the field has grown on Al...I hope it continues.

I noticed a play earlier in the game where Haynesworth totally blew the line back about 4 yards but Romo still got rid of the ball.

Pretty sure he was double teamed then.

He had a good game, IMO. The entire defense seemed to be on the same page the entire game. I liked what I saw. I hope they keep improving.
Who would have thought that at this point in the season, the team would be getting more from Haynesworth than Ocho? :bricks: I never saw that coming at all.

That will never show up on the stat sheet, nobody will ever mention that in a pre-game hype show...But I'd bet my first born and my untold fortune on the fact that Belichick brought this up in a film session.

WE see what you are doing Albert. We get it.

Keep it up, playah!

Let's hope Big Al gets better. Man, I kinda feel bad for the LG and the QB of the Skins. Watch out.

I wonder if those people who were wanting to cut him still feel that way.

Come at me bro!

BTW, I hated the Alby trade for about 8 hrs till I started liking it.

Funny, I was listening to 98.5 and Jermaine Wiggins said Haynesworth had zero effect on Carter's sack because the 3 blockers he took up were on the other side of the line. Granted Wiggins basically wanted to say the defense on Sunday was basically the same defense we have seen all season and the Cowboys just made them look good. Felger threw in that the triple team wasn't by design and someone just blew an asignment.

I still wonder if Wiggins actually played the game. He clearly knows nothing about it. Even Mazz seemed shocked that Wiggins could say some of the stuff he was saying. And yes, I am complaining about something someone said on the radio again, but at least it is topical.

Probably a game where it is legal to have 13 players on offense so that when one rusher ties up three blockers it has zero effect on how the rest of the blockers block the other rushers. Seriously even if you have max protection and have seven people blocking, if one defender takes up three blockers it only leaves 4 blockers for the 3-4 other rushers. That is a significant impact on the ability to protect the QB.

Stop bringing logic into this discussion! This is sports talk radio here, the stupider, more outrageous you are...the better.

How the heck will the Steelers OL deal with these guys? Especially since they'll be healthy and rested off a buy.
