Gilmore traded to Carolina

They would have at least gotten something for him last year since we weren’t competing for a title anyway. But we needed those 7 wins, I guess.

here's a hanky........you can put it next to your lawyer milloy hanky

Tampa would be fine too (if you take the emotions out of it). NFC team we've already played this year.

Not so fast. We have until 4pm.. I actually would be surprised if a trade doesn't get executed by then. If it does, then we still get a comp pick.

No reason why a trade couldn't happen. Gilmore's camp made a big mistake letting it leak out right now that he wants to make $15m on a one year rental if he gets released.
I agree but also don't discard that whoever trades for him will want to talk to him first. He could simply say he won't report and essentially kill a deal .

Which would have meant last year's OL would have been even worse, and people would be whining as much about it as they're whining about this year's OL and screaming at their TVs and in the GDT, and not cherishing that extra draft pick we'd have for this season.

What that draft pick would be is always a fun exercise. People think Thuney would be offered the same contract he got and the signing team would have sent a high draft pick too? Maybe, maybe not. I think if someone was offering a 2nd like people here speculate we would have pulled the trigger. I suspect a 2nd just wasn't on offer.
I don't know - when you're in a salary dump, obvious rebuild year, is it really worth franchising a guy? I know they wanted to keep him long term, but sucks to tag him and not get that done.

Gilmore started following Licht and Arians
They're probably the team in need of a CB the most, but they'd have to pull cap space out of thin air.

If they trade him I could see the bears.

eh, as long as he doesn't go to Tampa, I can live with that...
Didn’t really give this one much thought before you hit “Post Reply,” did you? Who cares if he goes to Tampa? We won’t see them again unless both teams make the Super Bowl. He’d be in the NFC and, as it stands now, would impact games that would take place against OTHER division rivals. I’d rather see him not go back to Buffalo, the Jets, Miami, Ravens, Chiefs, Chargers, Browns, Steelers, Raiders, or Titans. Really, the only reason why anyone wouldn’t want to see him go to Tampa is if they’re not thinking big picture, care more about Bill’s legacy than the Patriots this year, or both.

Now there's zero trade value because teams know they can negotiate directly with the player if they wait. Maybe you're right. I dunno. It still makes no sense to me.

Thanks, girlfriend. Since it’s coming from someone with no testosterone left in his body, at least I can trust that it won’t be soiled. Go back down to the Pub now and scream about Covid.

It's in Gilmore's best interest to choose his team. Go win another ring in Tampa. Or go to a different team that will give him a big last contract.

It looks a weird season now...i can not believe...

Strongly disagree with this.

Why spend 350M on free agents, 164M guaranteed, and then try to save a bit on your star CB1.

At this point the 1-3 rebuilding Pats should now think about trading other old guys for picks and give young guys playing time. Hightower and McCourty.
Because Gilmore isn't looking for a "bit" more money, he's a 31 year old CB coming off a major injury that is looking for a top-of-market long term deal. The Pats hoped he'd eventually relent and play for the contract he signed, but they decided they're done waiting for that to happen.

On this point, Green Bay plays Cin, KC, Bal, and Cle the rest of the way (who other than KC, should all be in the WC mix in the AFC).

Tamps plays Miami, Indy, Buffalo, and the Jets. I would say helping Green Bay would help us a little more if we're still pulling for a WC spot, but both would be a net positive for the Patriots.

Again, if you can take emotions out of it.

Actually i did...I don't want Tampa to win again. Got a problem with that? Gilmore isn't going to put any of those other teams over the top. Gimme a break.

You forget that they have Brady, one of the best GM in the league

I honestly hate the way Tampa has built their team...basically signing a bunch of FAs
The irony. That's what teams do that want to win.

you're welcome, highly medicated psycho

He really didn’t have any trade value? Releasing him and getting nothing seems like an awful move.
It does aside from the cap space because they likely would have received a 3rd round compensatory pick in 2023.

They could negotiate with him when he becomes an UFA and hope his agent comes down from $15m a little, or they could trade for him right now and pay him $7m prorated.

Ah okay. So you’re more concerned with Belichick’s legacy than helping us win the division. Got ya.

The last part wins. He's been holding out for exactly that reason. He'd be playing for us right now if we gave him a big last contract.
