Gilmore traded to Carolina

Well, ouch.

This isn't like the Thuney situation (which really should have been handled differently, as some here said at the time).

Pats are betting Gilmore won't be the 2018 Gilmore. Gilmore is betting someone will pay him like they would have paid that guy. We won't know the answer for a year or so, depending on the contract he signs.

Miguel said it's possible that the Pats perhaps couldn't get injury settlement relief on Jules and one other player, and that's why they were so tight to the cap (his number was different as he had assumed they would get those settlements). Circumstance might have forced this.

Now I'm watching Hightower. Word is, he's nursing a hurt knee. Another big salary there.

No clue how to format Tweets, so here's an old school copy and paste....

Adam's $54,000 number must mean Julian Edelman and Beau Allen did qualify for the injury protection benefit.

He led the team in tackles because they kept completing passes to the guy he was doing a bad job covering. That’s is bad, not good.
I guess JJones isn't good either since he led the Patriots in tackles.

So Bill is just helping Tom by giving him a pro bowl cornerback for free....why?

I don't care if Collins is a locker room guy. He is good against the run. That is what the Pats desperately need right now is a LB who can stop the run.
Since when? He has had trouble setting the edge. That Ravens game a couple years ago he was a mess.

Which would have meant last year's OL would have been even worse, and people would be whining as much about it as they're whining about this year's OL and screaming at their TVs and in the GDT, and not cherishing that extra draft pick we'd have for this season.

What that draft pick would be is always a fun exercise. People think Thuney would be offered the same contract he got and the signing team would have sent a high draft pick too? Maybe, maybe not. I think if someone was offering a 2nd like people here speculate we would have pulled the trigger. I suspect a 2nd just wasn't on offer.

Tough to trade a guy that was already sitting out because he wanted a new contract. Why would a team give up a draft pick if there is a chance the guy continues sitting out. Imagine if GB traded a 3rd for him but said they aren't willing to give him a new deal right now and will wait until after the season to talk. Gilmore would continue to sit out and then the 3rd round pick gets returned to them because i'm sure any team that would trade would make it a conditional pick. Much easier to give a free agent a front loaded contract so they can kick the cap hit down the road and keep a draft pick
I would assume any team would do their due diligence and see what he is seeing as far as a contract before they traded for him.

Thanks
You have brought me one step closer to the modern world
Now I will work on "screen capture"

I understand the move. I don't like it, but I understand it. Meh. Now I'm sitting at my desk all sad (but I'll get over it).

Maybe Bill knows what he's doing after all.

He isn't elite against the run, but he is good against it. Better than what the Pats have now. And one game doesn't make a career.
