Patriots Player Departure Gilmore traded to Carolina

Interesting stuff in here about Bill's management of the team.

We gave up Gilmore to add more cap space...and got Jamie Collins as a result. Look at it as a Gilmore for Collins trade plus a 6th rounder. Collins is already making his presence felt on the field, while Gilmore wanted more money and effectively held out.

Im not opposed to trading Gilmore. He's over 30, injured and wants 16million.

It's the timing that bill has messed up. His motto has been "a year early rather than a year late" but he traded Gilmore almost 2 years late.

After 2019 would've been the time to capitalize. Coming off DPOTY. Especially when bill said 2020 was a reset year and we knew Gilmore was not happy with his contract

The only thing that makes sense to me is that Bill wasn't comfortable moving on from Gilly because he didn't believe JC is a true #1. Not sure if he's wrong there. What's frustrating is that with all the money he had, he didn't choose to set some aside to restructure his contract. Gilly must've been upset seeing how Bill overpaid for all new FAs and asked him to take a pay cut (if that rumor is true).

Pats were apparently willing to restructure his deal for him to make more money this year with incentives, he turned it down. So it's all about getting that 1 final big payday for him and since it wasn't gonna be the Pats he clearly wasn't gonna play. What's the point in keeping a player on the books who is not gonna play.

He really cost himself some money forcing a trade. Imagine what he would be doing in this Pats defense, meanwhile he's gonna end up potentially getting blown out the rest of the season, Panthers got Tampa 2x, Buffalo and New Orleans to close out the season

In the meantime, JC is already dreaming of ways to spend his soon-to-arrive windfall !
