I think (hope) the Pats get it that Woods is a special teams player at best and extremely limited when it comes to playing LB.

All I can say is, if they don't have two new starters at LB from the draft, this defense is going to be brutal in 2010.

This is exactly the way I feel.
But I will say that if BB thinks he's worth the roster spot then who am I to contradict him. After all, I really didn't think Banta-Cain was all that but he had come on the last year. Maybe Woods will do the same. At the very least he will provide some competition for the new guys... If there are any.
