Gasper: Maroney Out to Make Up Ground

How someone can defend the guy is far and away beyond me. You apologists screaming that he has potential, well no ****. There's a reason he is on the roster today. Nobody hates anybody here. Rather I think what you have is a fanbase so tired of watching Maroney's talent go to waste.

comparing him up to other prospects is irrelevant, does it make it any better for us? No, it means we got ****ed like other teams. In 06, dude misses a quarter of the season, he misses like 6 games in 07. Goes on IR in 08. People here are now wondering where the frustration comes?

If his shoulders are causing him to dance than I think it's time for Maroney to take that rookie $$ and ride off in the sun set. Becauise that **** isn't going to cut it in the NFL. You're injured every year? How about instead of wasting Kraft's money paying you to do ****, he retires? It's ridiculous watching this waste of talent.

Can Maroney still do it? YES. No one is saying he can't make it. But than again nobody has been saying that for the last 3 years, weve just been screaming in frustration watching guys like Sammy Morris and even Lamont Jordan look so much better behind this same OL.

None of the running backs in that draft, except for Jones-Drew, has lived up to their potential, starting with Reggie Bush, then Maroney (The Phoney), Addai, etc. Those 3 have had flashes of brilliance, but also have been pushed by other backs, and in some cases, are the secondary backs now. It's a shame, but I remember being a big Maroney fan back in 2005 & 2006, now I can't wait until he's gone, I don't think he will ever be a star or even above avarage. What a shame.

DeAngelo Williams????

What I really don't get with people on this board is why it is ok when guys like Morris and Taylor get hurt every year, but when Maroney gets hurt it is treated like a crime. It's the NFL, RBs get hurt. They're hit more than anybody else on the field.

Same "Song and Dance" (pun intended) from Laurence Bologna aka Oscar Mayer

BB obviously likes him, so we'll just have to suffer through it.

I figure at some point, there'll be another Corey Dillon walking through that door.

If we have already suffered through 3 years of close to nothing productive as the main running back we can suffer through another season of it.

If BB keeps him after another ho hum year (which most of us expect) I will have to start pulling my hair out and ask ...why?

Stop it with the 3 years of nothing.

- Maroney gave us 2 years of solid production, with some huge plays tempered by some irritating inconsistency and some nagging injuries.
- Then he gave us essentially a year of IR.
- So far this year he's given us nothing except a few nice catches.

It's fine to say he's been a disappointment and a frustration, but at least be accurate.

Forget Morris and Taylor. In fact, Maroney has been hurt every year. It is reasonable to be frustrated by his lack of durability.

2006- knee, torn rib cartilige & shoulder
2007- shoulder, groin
2008- fractured shoulder

His upright running style and inability to dodge direct blows is taking a big toll on his body.

He seems healthy so far this year, just rusty and not getting many carries. Run him until he breaks ... if he does, all the Law Firm fans on this board can rejoice that their guy will finally get his shot.

Running backs in the NFL get beaten up like no one else. Cadillac Williams, Darren McFadden and Felix Jones are examples of first round backs who've had trouble completing a healthy season.

I agree that Maroney's running style may have made him more susceptible to taking direct hits, like the bruised ribs and the shoulder injury. Not sure how it accounts for the groin pull in 2007 though.

Taking all carries and making an average is mostly irrelevant when it comes to running the ball. Obviously, more yards is better than less, but the main goal of a running back is making consistent runs to gain 10 yard chunks, and making first downs and touchdowns in short yardage.

Can a guy with a 3.9 average be more productive than one with a 4.5? Absolutely.

Only if they are getting their carries in very different situations.
A guy who only carries on 3rd and 1 can be productive if he averages 1.5, but the fact that something is possible is not a reason it is true.

By all accounts he has a clean bill of health. He does need some reps. I am very much pulling for him to do well on Sunday!

Some of my typical shouts during a game:

YOU GO FRED I'M GLAD YOU'RE HERE I LOVE YOU!

YOU GO KEVIN MR DEPENDABLE I LOVE YOU!

YOU GO SAMMY THE BULL I LOVE YOU!

LET'S GO LOMO I DON'T LOVE YOU BUT I LIKE YOU AND I COULD LEARN TO LOVE YOU IF YOU TURN INTO LOMO FO SHO BUT FOR NOW WE CAN STILL BE FRIENDS OKAY?!

I guess that pretty much sums it up for me!

Sounds like you and LoMo are pretty much on a platonic basis, to me.

Another thing to factor into all this is age. Maroney is just 24 and is in his fourth season. Yes, Adrian Peterson is also 24, but Maroney's problem is more psychological at this point and there's still room for him to mature into a impact role. It's not a certainty, but it's definitely possible.

Maroney is like a beautiful rack on a woman. In his case thou you must take the Y off of Busty to create a new word which best exemplifies him as a player and him as a first round draft pick.

New Word.

BUST

Maroney is like a puppy that pees on the carpet. You want to love him, but it gets tougher every day.

SLOMO FO SHO is headed for the shelter if he keeps up the disco duck.

Did you really have to use that type of analogy to get to your conclusion of LoMo being a bust?
We've got some excellent female members,here,so let's bump-up the maturity level a little.......just sayin'

I'd like to see Maroney get 20-25 carries for a couple of weeks. Much like TB, it might take a while to get his timing back after missing most of a season.

Last time Maroney had the carries, he was 25-122 against the Chargers in the AFC Championship game. But no one remembers that ...

Give him the rock and see what happens.

Good point - TB's obviously rusty coming of IR just like Maroney, so let's limit him to 6-7 passes per game.
