Gary Tanguay - Official Bash Thread

Tanguay obviously is playing the contrarian shtick for attention. I can't take him seriously enough to get upset over any of the nonsense he spews.

From what little I've seen of him on TV, it seems so obvious that he's just playing the "contrarian" role it almost comes across as satire. I guess he's just doing what he has to do to keep the ratings coming to preserve his cushy job but c'mon.

Tanguay is Felger and Mazz without any hint of subtly in his negativity.

Felger and Mazz are the guys at the party who tell a really subtle, yet obviously sexist joke. The joke is funny, and many people laugh, but despite it's cleverness it's still pretty classless.

Tanguay is the guy at the party that walks in and shouts, "Yo ****, yo motha's a WHORE! HAHA!"

That's all they do. In their weekly meetings they probably draw straws to decide who is going to take what side of the "issue du jour". Tanguay is a wet rag and not very good at being the contrarian, but Felger seems to be a natural fit at being an ***hole. I wonder if he even believes half the crap that spews out of his pie-hole.

Do people realize that Tanguay is just playing a character as the contrarian? He is taking a page from Felger, but unlike Felger, he doesn't know how to tread the line of trolling local fans without turning everyone against you.

Say what you will about him, but for the most part, Felger knows the line where trolling Pats fans turns from just riling them up and shouting at him through the radio and changing the channel all together. When I hear Tanguay on the radio, I change the channel.

It's too bad: FootBall is an awesome Sport, and if some Station ever hired someone to discuss actual FootBall ~ Tactics, Strategies, Techniques, how all of these are changing ever Year and every Week, the Rise and Fall of Teams and their Players and Coaches and what's causing these, the Draft, and hundreds of other Aspects of this Great Game ~ I'd rarely listen to anything else. But as it is, all you've got, aside from the occasional Guest Appearance from a Teddy B, is a bunch of Spastic Colons yelling at each other.

Mat Chatems pretty good along with Dan Koppen. those guys would be good, but since they wouldn't be controversial we won't see them have they're won show.

I disagree. To be a really effective contrarian and troll you have to be impervious to criticism and really not give a sh.t what people think of you, but that's not Tanguay. Tanguay is really thin skinned and I think he hates being the villain and people hating his guts, and by every account he has become completely miserable since he went down this road. According to ****erson, who knows him really well, he's never seen him so unhappy. Unlike Borges and Felger, who relish being hated and have no problem making their living off it I think Tanguay hates being hated and it bothers him when people sh.t all over him. So while I think that people have a point about ignoring the contrarian to diminish their ratings I think Tanguay is the exception because it truly bothers him that everyone hates his guts.

I'm aware of that, my point is that Tanguay is different because he can't take it. He only became the contrarian because he saw his career disappearing before his eyes but he isn't tough enough to take the hatred that goes with the role. I honestly think that Tanguay can't take the heat that being the contrarian takes.

Gary asked me to thank you for helping him generate buzz.

We haven't rid ourselves of the likes of Borges, Shank, Felger, Tomase, et al. Guys like Curran are fun and Reiss, Perillo and they're likes counter-balance the clown shows.

Curran has certainly (to me) found the right amount of snarky temperment without alienating the fan base. He's the one-of-a-kind. The hater clowns just mimic each other. They're act is so played it's redundant. They missed the boat and Curran is waving goodbye as they franticly pace the shoreline.
