That was not on Mariota. It would not have been double coverage but an easy completion if his moron WR would have properly finished off his decoy route. Or if the route design would have been better..

Absurd call. Can anyone explain why that judgement can’t be made on a replay?

Stopping forward progress means a whistle is blown. You can fumble after the whistle blows the play dead, and any recovery is tainted by which players play after the whistle and which as they are supposed to, stop at the whistle.

How he hell is forward progress called on a QB who was stationary and then gets hammered and hits the ground in a split second? Insane. Horrible call and stupid to not be able to challenge that.

Yeah they shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath as some of the more historically great defenses, but they’re damn good. It’s good for the Pats that their offense will essentially hold them back. Creates one less contender in the AFC.

Also- I think the Defense will be even better next year...they can be somewhat undisciplined at times, and I definitely could see that issue being resolved with experience.
