Gaffney

Prior to camp I was reading alot of the great Caldwell-Gaffney debates on here.

Two things surprised me.

First, how little weight some folks gave the two 100 yard performances Gaffney had in the playoffs.

Secondly, and most importantly, how 21 receptions in the post season kind of shows you the level of confidence Brady started having in him.

I appreciated Caldwell's contributions, but Gaffney stood out alot during those games in a special way. Specifically in what he did after he caught the ball. He exhibited well above average quickness and worked hard for extra yardage.

Plus that catch in the end-zone against Indy was Cat's ASS.

Now in camp, he seems to growing even more.

As I had thought and hoped before, my man Reche will be the odd man out.

An article from today:

As a fan who chose Caldwell over Gaffney, I think you Gaffney fans made too much of Caldwell's two drops in the AFC Championship game. The guy dropped one ball the entire regular season and people focused on those two drops.

I didn't minimize what Gaffney did in the playoffs though. I felt two games wasn't enough of sample to pass judgement either way. And I still don't.

I have always maintained that both Gaffney and Caldwell will make the team with Washington being the one who is left out. I still think Troy will start the season on the PUP and the Pats will value Caldwell's and Gaffney's prior experience with Brady more than what Washington can bring to the table with special teams.

If Gaffney can continue his training camp production he has had so far, I am happy to be "wrong" about the guy.

As a Gaffney fan, I think it's beyond ridiculous to read anything into a miniscule portion of training camp.

I believe i read Caldwell made a nice catch on a long bomb, which still means nothing at this point.

It's training camp, folks. If we didn't have so many WRs, it might be Kelvin Kight making all the catches.

I hope this isn't going to be another endless back and forth about 2 receivers. If it is, I reserve the right to mock it mercilessly.:bricks:

I agree that we cannot jump the gun. If I remember correctly, Monty Beisel looked really good his first few days of camp last year before Bruschi broke his wrist. We all know how that turned out.

I hope Gaffney can keep it up, but It is a little too early to annoit him the winner of the WR back up race.

Jerome Wiggins, Bethel Johnson, Mike Cloud, etc.... All had their days.

If Gaffney makes it and excels, I'll be thrilled.
