Greenway was drafted at 17. We drafted 23 and in the 30's.

The board wanted Manny Lawson who was drafted at 24. Belichick wasn't drafting LB's. He had RB's and WR's much higher on his board than the available LB's.

And so, we chose Maroney and Jackson. One alternative was Santonio Holmes and LeDane White.

Lets see .... Chad Jackson over SB MVP Santonio Holmes - Man, BB screwed up royally then, can't always be right.

If hindsight had helped back then BB would have waited and drafted Jennings and Gocong and made me look so much smarter.

I do. You take Barwin or Matthews at #23 so you can grab Gilbert or Hood at #34. It makes a lot of sense with the Dolphins drafting hot on the heels of the Pats.

This sounds an awful lot like drafting for need, something with which the PATs have not exactly been synonymous.

In fact, I agree with much of the sentiment in this thread that one could argue RB could be just as much a need in 2010 as DL.

What are teams really looking for in in the first round? Playmakers, that's what. Not depth on the OL, a nickel corner, a WR that can grow into the position, or DE who might shore up the run support.

Moreno is a playmaker royale. If he were to fall to 23, I'd be very surprised. But I wouldn't be surprised if we took him - think of the FREAK opposing teams would have to get on when looking at 5 backs who can deliver while trying to contain Brady, Moss and Welker. That's sick.

Faulk's is on the downhill. Like it or not, it happens to the best of them and he's been lucky to stay so clean. Faulk's $3mil cap hit would/could be traded away if we took Moreno. LoMo's not going anywhere.

If Moreno is there at #23 we'd receive some juicy trade offers as well, very juicy. Maybe a flip flop with the Cards at 31 in exchange for their 2010 2nd rounder?

To me at the time, Greenway looked like a fine prospect. I didn't want Lawson.

I did want Greenway but you are correct,he was drafted earlier than our selection so I did look to Lawson,But it appears to me in the early going that Greenway will be better than Lawson when all is said and done

We've complained about our running game for years, and especially at the lack of depth. Woould it really be terrible to go into 2009 with Taylor, Morris, Brown, Faulk and Maroney as our five?

If you've been complaining about the Patriots running game, frankly, you're an idiot. They've had one of the best running games in the NFL since about 2004.

If you could then get a franchise RB who is the BPA at #23 and he can immediately add something else to the offense then why wouldnt you?

Because runningbacks just aren't that valuable. They have short careers, limited affect on wins, and are largely fungible.

Now, this is tough. We have no way of knowing what Jackson would have been had he not blown the knee, but it looks like Holmes would have been better.

Lendale White is a terrible football player, and legitimately hurts his team everytime he in on the field. Chris Brown is much better than him. Maroney was clearly the better pick, IMO, despite the fact that hes been hurt.
