If your a fan of Summeral and Brookshier, Grogan, hannah, this brings back memories...

YouTube - 1980 Rams at Pats #1

Great ... thanks ... I was a big Steve Grogan fan.
He called all his own plays ... always thought he'd be a coach.

That was a great line for the Patriots ... very nimble and mobile ... Belichick would like that line.

Amazing talent out there for both teams.

How the frig did Erhardt screw that up?

That OL was fantastic. Grogan was throwing to Morgan, Jackson, Francis, three Pro Bowlers.

The Rams had Cromwell, Reynolds, the Youngbloods and Fred Dryer out there. Unreal.

I remember Grogan being hurt that year , he had 2 bad knees... But he had a bad game in San Fran that year 6 ints in a game.. Erhart was a great coordinator, horrible coach... When Chuck Fairbanks left, that is when the team lost a leader until Ray Berry.. Although Berry loved Eason for some strange reason..

awesome vid. that guy is a huge Rams fan and even has SB XXXVI in its entirety posted as well

Would hope a Pats fan would come up with some videos.. Like the 86 mnf game..

I'd love to see clips of the 85 AFCCG or the 1993 season finale where the pats beat the phins in OT to keep them out of the playoffs

@ Miami? That is the one pre-Belichick game I'd like to revisit, particularly per my recollection of Esiason & Collinsworth's would-be WC-qualifying party, frequently cut to during the game, spoiled. Ah, the jubilation replaced with funereal silence as that last dagger of a drive swiftly struck home, oh those somber, dead-eyed faces

There's a website you can go to, and download classic Pats games, including some of the ones you guys are talking about......opcorn:

remember it well. we started calling him "baby boomer" after all the crying the bengals did that night. i've got a new found respect for esiason since.

Summerall was the best. Thank You!

nice job, thks from my side too

I was sooooooooooo looking for things like this...

After getting addicted to the old Pittsburgh Super Bowls WIICTVFAN put up...(I know, I know but the history wonk in me loves it!) I was desperate to find Patriots videos!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Never was a huge Grogan fan, seem to remember too many late interceptions... he had a ton of heart though.

Always enjoyed Summerall...

Hannah was the man, never forget when used to go to camps at Bryant and remember the first time I saw him and the size of his neck... sleep apnea waiting to happen. He was a very big man..

How times have changed. Yes, Hannah was very large.

6'2", 265 lbs

That's the same size (2 inches shorter) than Brandon Jacobs. Compare Hannah to the current left guard, Logan Mankins: 6'4", 307 lbs.

Different world.

Would you care to share that website address with us?

Thanks. Nice clip. Great to hear Summerall's voice (sort of automatically think it's a Super Bowl).

But 1980 = "old time"! whoa, that does make me feel "old."

Am aware, but when the first time I saw him up close I was somewhat taken back by his overall stature and build... he was a big man then.

Those were the days you could get really close to them, as they left the Bryant Dorms and walked to the playing fields... it reminded me of the gauntlet.

Thanks for posting this.

Viewing this game, it illustrates how the shotgun snap has changed football.

Look how Grogan had to race to drop back and had less time to view the field.

It's no wonder completion percentages were lower back then for QBs.

The shotgun was used a lot in the 1970s. Roger Staubach, for instance, was in shotgun formation on the majority of his passing plays. You have to remember that even though the Patriots had three Pro Bowlers out there catching passes, they were a running team predominately, and they used the play action pass a lot. When Grogan completed passes, they were typically 20 yards downfield.
