Florio: NFL slams brakes on notion that Goodell's role over disciplinary matters will change soon

They will lose the power to go after the Patriots.
I almost voted this funny, but in a way I think you are serious and I sorta, kinda, reluctantly agree. Yes, t is stupid, but I think there are 31 idiots. (OK 30, GB is publicly owned by a group of idiots.)

I believe he could have 5 Brady-like losses in 5 years and he'd still have a vast majority of ownership support. Not going anywhere and his power will not be diminished. The NFL owners love power and control over the masses almost as much as they love money. I've always thought that the antebellum plantation owner mentality was a comparison to NFL owners which was an extreme exaggeration of the current arrangement. I know it's still an exaggeration, but I believe it's much less extreme than I previously thought. Just my opinion.

If he messes up the LA thing (I don't know how, but I trust him.) then they'll move.

Keep in mind that outside of New England, going after the Pats is popular with team owners and fan bases This witch hunt was a positive for Goodell and he has as his trophy the draft picks which will hurt the Pats in the future. Even losing the Brady appeal doesn't take away this. Consequently, there is no reason to change the structure since it achieved its purpose.

It is so stupid. What is the point of having a disciplinary system in place that has been deemed on 5 prominent occasions in court to be so unfair as to have the decision vacated?

I truly despise the owners for having such ridiculous opposition to instituting a system with fair, impartial arbitration. Why are they afraid of fairness???
