Florio: League destroyed their PSI measurements

Florio has usually been a jackass about most everything BUT for whatever reason he was the only major national sports media member to defend Brady during deflategate. No idea why, he’s crapped on Brady and the Pats for other stuff. But not that. Maybe to be the contrarian? Idk. But I remember it very well, he was the only guy.
No he wasn't the only guy.
Mike Reiss, Louis Riddick and Tedy Bruschi all said it was b.s.- and they all worked for espn at the time.
Theres also that female writer for the Wasington Post, who was much more vocal in support of Brady.

I only read the o.p. b4 posted.
Just saw someone else mention Sally Jenkins - she was the Wash. Post writer whose name i couldnt remember.
She was awesome

Mortenson also played a big role in this. I understand that journalists have a responsibility to protect sources, but that only applies if the source is providing accurate information. If a source lies to the journalist there is no responsibility to cover for that source. Mortenson knew Vincent had lied to him about the core issue involved but decided he would hide this from being discovered. Both Mortenson and Vincent should have been fired immediately for their roles in this.

Brady should sue Goodell, Vincent, and the league, and Kraft should demand the draft picks back, and a formal apology from the league that clears them if any wrongdoing. It won’t happen, but it should.
I despise Mort. On his twitter he had a big bio writeup about his Christian values but he kept this up long after it was discredited then made himself out as the victim rather than accept and atone for the role )however unwilling) he played in hurting others

Ball pressure gauge as measured in Jupiter, Florida... priceless. And handy.

It just goes to show you how much they really didn't believe the science. Announcing they were going to check the pressures meant the NFL didn't believe the Ideal Gas Law was real. And, don't forget the Patriots were docked a 3rd round pick -- more than the Giants were docked for talking to the quarterback through the headset AFTER it should have been off, more than the Falcons for piping in crowd noise when the opponent had the ball, ore than Browns sending text messages to the sideline (all of these larger infractions than anything the Patriots were ever accused of) -- because of their "history of cheating". Even when the "history of cheating" was greatly exaggerated.

They're crooks! I hope the NFLPA hires Troy Vincent someday and he spills the beans about how corrupt the NFL office is.

Thanks for bringing these instances up. The Falcons, Giants and Browns (along with a host of other teams) have a "history of cheating" based on those incidents but they have largely been memory holed. You'll never hear them mentioned in passing on the roundtable shows or by commentators during a game. Most fans have either forgotten or were never aware of them, and will dismiss them as no big deal if they're brought it. When the Patriots are involved, their "cheating" is a key to their success and a threat to the very fabric of competitive sports.

The BIGGER allegation is that Troy Vincent was the one who was doing the SkyCam reviews that over-turned the two calls in FAVOR of the Eagles. Can you say "Conflict of Interest"?? Can you say "GAME FIXING"? That is BIGGER than the Black Sox scandal...

It's insane how all the people who were very concerned about the "integrity of the game" when the Patriots are accused of something suddenly don't care when the league changed the catch rules for the Super Bowl and allowed a person who very clearly has a bias against the Patriots to co-manage the replays for SB 52. Clement's TD catch was an incompletion all season long, but with Troy Vincent's help, it was upheld as score. I don't think that arrangement is normal for the Super Bowl. I can't remember hearing that Vincent or some other league official was sitting in the replay booth for any other Super Bowls.

Think about the circumstances for that game; With a win, the Patriots would have won back to back Super Bowls and 3 out of 4 for the second time. Nothing would be guaranteed for the 2018 season, but they could have won 3 in a row and 4 out of 5. You can make a case that league worked to prevent that.

It’s legitimately one of the most stupid things to ever claim could provide an advantage.

It was so satisfying that after that crap came out and obviously people immediately attributed that “cheating” to why the Pats so rarely fumbled we had a sample size of FIVE full seasons of Brady on the Pats where the fumble numbers did not increase at all. And just to add onto it Brady’s two seasons on the Bucs saw very few fumbles as well.
This is also probably due to having an accurate, smart qb who puts the ball in the best place, and therefore creates an environment for fewer fumbles.

Not only that, think about how crazy it is to have someone who has no right to be involved, and combine that with the fact that he both lost to one of the teams and his former team is the opponent. It would be like having Bruschi in the booth overseeing officials in a Super Bowl against the Giants. (Except Bruschi is not a bitter prick)

we all know the league lied regarding deflate gate

However, whats hardly mentioned is deflategate stopped being about the actual deflation of footballs and morphed into the argument that goodell had the right and authority to suspend brady, or anyone else for that matter, regardless of fact or circumstance... we all know it after the wells report was released... anyone with half a brain and one ounce of skepticism knew that that report was written backwards...

and thats why the Patriots lost against a stacked deck. Its why, no matter how much b?tching about Kraft there is, there is zero he could have done to protect his team or quarterback. he saw the writing on the wall early on. He got played the fool though. He thought that there would be exoneration thru the science. But that would only come if the league wasn't playing games, which they were. They were gunning for Belichick, and wound up netting brady and a couple clowns.

it did expose the petty rivalries that make up the NFL ownership group. its a pretty pathetic group of billionaires.

That same site also mentions the possibility of Brady wanting to own an NFL team someday. No way he will sue the league. He got his revenge the following year. Goodell won't be NFL commish when Tom gives his HOF speech - lets hope Troy Vincent is driving an airport shuttle bus by then too.

If he really wants to own a team, in hindsight, taking all those below market contracts probably wasn’t the best idea

THis is exactly why I said that Brady should have appealed to SCOTUS

But that wasn't the argument his attorneys made before the court. You can't change the basis of the case on appeal.

Brady was bound by the CBA and it's arbitration clause, and that's what they attacked in court. As soon as it went to trial it was no longer about science and what happened, it was about procedure and mechanics.

The lower court rulings said as much on the appellate level. The SCOTUS wouldn't have accepted the case on that type of appeal.

Disagree. The issue before Judge Berman was Section 10 of the Federal Arbitration Act, 9 U.S.C. § 10.

(a)In any of the following cases the United States court in and for the district wherein the award was made may make an order vacating the award upon the application of any party to the arbitration—
(1)
where the award was procured by corruption, fraud, or undue means;
(2)
where there was evident partiality or corruption in the arbitrators, or either of them;
(3)
where the arbitrators were guilty of misconduct in refusing to postpone the hearing, upon sufficient cause shown, or in refusing to hear evidence pertinent and material to the controversy; or of any other misbehavior by which the rights of any party have been prejudiced; or
(4)
where the arbitrators exceeded their powers, or so imperfectly executed them that a mutual, final, and definite award upon the subject matter submitted was not made.
