Five WR's on the 53 and 4-5 RB's

Yes, Schooler could be labeled a safety, but this would have little effect other than perhaps pleasing mediots and posters. He's not getting any reps at safety. There is no saved roster spot since Schooler does not help meet any need at free safety.

Part of training camp is to give players reps at positions they don't play. Sometimes these players are needed in an emergency or at the end of a game where the result is already determined. For example, in mini-camp Mafi was getting reps at center. I would hope that Wallace has gotten reps at RG.
I tend to agree this probably about getting him some reps in case of emergency. But now that Schooler has firmly established himself as a STs ace he could develop backup skills elsewhere that allow us to save a roster spot on a DB. Slater never did but it wasn't for lack of effort we tried him at WR and Safety. I don't think Izzo has much of a role on D but prior to that Matt Stevens was a gunner and safety for us and I think Wigham played more on D than Slater ever did. I think it's fairly common for STs to also fill other roles so let's see what Schooler can do.

We barely have 2 NFL caliber Rb’s where are we getting 2-3 more? I think Hasty and Harris will be fine practice squad elevations… I think Fenwick makes the initial 53… and maybe they carry Bell as a HB/TE. I think there’s a better chance they carry 3 Rb than there is they carry 5.

This is a tough call.

If you are looking to establish the identity of a run first team, as precedent tells us AVP is likely to do, it makes more sense to keep 4 RBs on the 53.

If you are looking to field your best 53, or to audition players for future years, even keeping a 3rd RB likely means cutting a more talented TE or WR.

Could the best 53 include these 24 positions on OIffense PLUS ONE MORE?
QB (3)
WR (5)
TE (3)
OL (9)
RB (4)

So, no I don't think keeping 3rd RB will mean cutting a more talented/useful other player, ditto for the #4 RB.

Even with 4 RB's, we could carry a 4th QB or a 6th WR or a 4th TE or a 10th OL. I haven't heard strong arguments for any but a 6th WR, which can happen with 4 RB's. Of course, that is not my preference.

Depends on what we keep for our D/ST. The positional breakdown you suggest is close to maxed out at every position. In this case, an extra WR/RB is probably taking the place of a young DB.

I see a blocking TE as the best route to an improved running game. As it is, our #3 RB is already a replacement level guy. I don't see Harris or Hasty being much better than whatever FA or another team's PS has to offer. We haven't had any blocking support since Gronk/Develin/Gronk left. That was a sneaky integral part of the dynasty phase 2 offense, an offense that dominated on the ground year in and out.

I think there’s a little buzz about the UDFA they signed too. Can’t think of his name atm.

The total list was 24 roster spots on Offense.
DEFENSE
DL (6)
LB (8)
DB (10)

ST (4) including Schooler

So, as I call him, player 53 could be of any position. Of course this is true of the last 1-5 roster spots, especially considering minor injuries at the time of the cutdown. But, yes, adding a WR or a RB does lessen the opportunity to have an 11th DB.
