Every year there are typically a few names that are always big surprises when it comes down to final roster cuts, and there were certainly some names that were unexpected on Saturday as the Patriots pared down their roster to the mandatory 53.

As @Tunescribe mentioned in another thread, perhaps the biggest surprise was the decision to go with not just four tight ends rather than three, but a fullback as well. As for the other positions we knew that there would be very difficult decisions at running back and cornerback.

Of course the whole situation is very fluid; it is not as if there will not be multiple roster transactions in the very near future.

Considering that the club is without Tom Brady, Rob Ninkovich, Dion Lewis and Sebastian Vollmer, overall the talent level on the current roster is about as good as one could reasonably hope for.
