Where are you looking? Under "transactions," it's showing no player releases (or additions) since 9/4.

Unlikely. That was my speculation all along, $450,000 for a couple weeks' assistance with some wiggle room for each side in the event he actually makes the team.

It's confounding. How does a player sign a contract, get a signing bonus ask to be released but allowed to keep the signing bonus?

I'm not doubting and who knows what is in the CBA but I'm having a real hard time getting my brain around that one.
