Belichick’s coaching tree is scattered throughout the NFL, but he considers the branch that reached the Jets to be poisonous. Mangini, Belichick’s former ball boy in Cleveland and longtime assistant, took the Jets coaching job last year despite Belichick’s alleged protests. And adding insult to injury, Mangini then tried to lure some Pats assistants to New York with him before further poisoning the waters with holdout receiver Deion Branch last August.

Was BB really against mangini for going to the jets ?? i thought he released quite a +ve statement when he left . i was under the impression things got worse later...not sure what felger is talking abt

I remember BB being positive about Mangini when he got the Jets job. The venom came out over the Branch stuff as I recall.

Felger is making a new claim there, that Mangini tried to recruit from Belichick's staff. That would explain at least some of the animosity if true...

Appearently the way to start off with Belichick is as a ballboy. I wonder what the training camp for that position is like...

I'm off-topic because, as far as I can tell, the part where Mangini was a ballboy for Cleveland is the only interesting fact in the article. Hearsay, conjecture... Belichick never talks, so newspapers have to put words in his mouth.

i heard on espnradio once that people mentioned that mangini was trying to recruit pats coaches on the plane back from denver after the div playoff loss. i heard this on the dan patrick show who said some sources mentioned this to him

Peter king later came on and seemd to think that the whole thing escalated during the branch issue and there is something interesting to it that the tampering charges have not yet been decided in favor of or against the pats.
