ESPN:Tom Brady proves more nimble

I'm referring to his pocket awareness and movement specifically. That was the first year he started flinching for "ghost" rushers. His pocket awareness and movement wasn't bad those years, it simply wasn't as good as previous years. In 2010 and 2011, his pocket awareness/movement was excellent.

The ghost thing is a myth. He's been ducking defenders in back of him for many years. That wasn't the first year. In fact, we had a thread here that showed him ducking 5 more times that season, eluding sure sacks that way. It was a media myth, like they didn't notice Brady doing that before. He was masterful in the pocket in 2012

In fact I'd go beyond that and say the guy has been on his game for many years now. He was in the talk for MVP last year after all those mind blowing comebacks. When was his last mediocre season? Was it the last one with randy moss?

What I am referring to is no myth. I didn't get this idea from the media, nor have I seen it mentioned in the media. I learned of this phenomenon through observation. In 2012 Brady started ducking defenders who weren't there on occasion. I can only speculate why you're not aware of this, but a myth it is not.

I pay a lot of attention to Brady's movement. Check out my posts, I've been raving about his pocket awareness and movement since the Cinci game.

took awhile, but it's a nice mix of how brady learned to keep things going under weis and the dynamics that mcdaniel draws up.

He has always done this. For many years prior to 2012.

Are you referring to ducking ghosts?

Yes. For every 1 ghost he ducks 5 guys rushing him from behind. We had a very long thread on this in 2012 when someone brought in video evidence from many prior years, and in that same year , 2012, he did the same move multiple times to avoid rushers. I'm harping on 2012 because I thought that was his best year in terms of pocket command and command of the offense. All the stats show that it was the most efficient O ever.

Gotchya, I misunderstood you at first. I never implied that he never ducked actual rushers with that move, just that in 2012 he saw a lot of phantoms compared to previous years.

I disagree about 2012 being his best year for his pocket presence. To me, in 2010 and 2011 he appeared to be much better. 2009 was another down year for it, but that is understandable. I don't think his pocket movement has ever been bad, but some years has not been as good as others.

All the stats show that it was the most efficient O ever. ... 2012 was arguably his best year ever. some slump

Not to be pedantic, ok, let me be pedantic, but a slump in *pocket awareness* does not mean a slump in numbers production. To re-state: Brady is back to doing a much better job keeping his tackles positioned between himself and the rushers. It's part of what makes Brady Brady... constantly revisiting and re-improving his game to be at the highest level. It's what motivates him.

Not to change the subject, but I think it analogous: did you see those lasers he threw in the wind Sunday? He put some of those balls on the proverbial ROPE. He doesn't do that every game, but damnnn.

It's not about stats. When I say the offense was most efficient I'm not saying it was the greatest at number production. Quite the opposite. 2007 topped them in that category. In number of possessions, they scored TDs at the best rate ever in NFL history. Brady had total command of the offense. It was the first year they ran that Chip Kelly offense as well. Brady took it to a new level that year and it was about his command of the pocket.
