There were other factors accounted for which in Bill's estimation, made trading Jimmy now a better decision as opposed to chewing up $47m in cap space for two QBs and finding $40m in by cutting/re-doing current contracts just so they can tag and trade him.

If they were $100m under the cap then maybe they keep him till March or whenever

Yeah? He told you this?

That blowhard rex ryan thinks bill's gone after this season lol.

Joe Banner showing why he is no longer an NFL GM.

Apparently Banner seems to forget that the tagged player can't be traded until he signs his tag, and why would Jimmy G decide to immediately cooperate if he found out that Belichick was going to trade him to Cleveland when other teams' agents can reach out to him (which they can before he signs his franchise tender) and tell him they want him?

Matt Cassel was a special case because there were still a lot of people skeptical about him -- a 7th rounder who didn't start in college, suddenly looking ok in the NE offense. He also lucked out into having two teams needing QBs who were literally just staffed by former Patriots guys (Pioli in KC, Josh in Denver with the Cutler situation) and coincidentally those were the two teams that were interested in Cassel. No assurance that would happen this would happen this year around the trade deadline; even now it only looks like Patricia is leaving and he already has a QB.

I stopped Listening to Felger when he wondered why the Patriots had not spent close tom the cap - back in Wilfork's last year.Jonathan explained they were saving room for incentives listed as not likely to be earned but are likely if Wilfork and mayo did not get injured again.
Clear as day to anyone with a brain. Felger either is an idiot who can't understand it, or he pretended to not understand it so he could continue with his contrarian schtick.
Either way, he's not for me. I wonder about the intelligene of his listeners.

I'm sure you heard about Cassel's being franchised and traded. What they never mention is BB points out Pioli helped them out of a cap problem.

Felger never believes anything about the cap. As far as he's concerned, it's all a fantasy and can be circumvented at any time easily.

That settles it. He’s staying.
Ryan is right on both counts.
However Belichick for years could have left for more money.
I truly believe he does not coach to prove anything - that is a selfish concept and it would cheapen the game to him.

LOL the media has gone full ****** with this sorry.

Now we’ve got Belichick leaving from the mouth of Rex Ryan.....

Holy s**t these people are dumb.

You think Bill called Rex after that?
Want would be insane is Matt and Josh leaving and Belichick retiring?
Insane I think I would at that point I would stop watching football for a little.

Do you mean you believe he will leave then?
Losing B.B. would be a catastrophe beyond my imagination. He is not replaceable at all and look at the next best coach, he is not even in the same galaxy. I truly wish Ryan would not talk about anything

No I mean Ryan is right on both counts ... so he can say it.
He is underpaid and he has nothing left to prove.
But those 2 concepts have been true for many years ... I think he stays but anything is possible.

That is my opinion.

Ok cool. I’d agree on those concepts right out the gate. I don’t know Ryan very well, I remember him to be an ass all the time but I hope he does not have these afc contacts they are speculating about

We don’t know what he is paid.
We don’t know what HE FEELS he has left to accomplish nor do we know that any accomplishment at all would satisfy him and make him not driven to do it again.

By Rex Ryan’s standard B.B. would have retired 10 years ago because there was nothing left to accomplish.
B.B. isn’t rex Ryan.

BB loves to coach would have made a great teacher.

While I don’t necessarily disagree, as Belichick is the architect of the entire program, and as such much more valuable than any coach, we don’t actually know what he makes.

He doesn’t have anything to prove in the modern game but imo Paul Brown has always been his measuring stick, so he may see him the same way Tiger Woods saw Nicklaus’ majors. With Belichick it’s impossible to know what he is thinking because he lets nothing out.

I’m as close to certain as it gets that both Belichick and Brady are back for a few more years.

I don’t believe for a second that Brady would watch them trade Garrapolo while considering retirement. I believe Brady when he says he wants to go 4-5 more years. I also believe he can do that because his game is based upon his football IQ and accuracy, neither of which are deteriorating.
