only time will tell if this was the right move. Right now all we have is gossip, rumors, sources say this/that and whatever. Nobody knows unless you're in that organization.
Belichick does not always make the best move - but his average for making the best moves is tremendous.

I think some younger fans fear that we may have to become an average team at some point post Brady ... maybe - we'll see.

Some of us older guys who suffered through horrible Patriots teams I think are less fearful of that - we've been there before.

Is there a blueprint for replacing Brady and Belichick - I doubt it.

************....

"Sham" sure does fold under questioning....

He might as well work for OK!

I do believe JG was the guy, but what are you gonna do? You don't trade the face of the dynasty...do you? I don't! I have faith we'll find a plan B when Tom is done, if not oh well. The Run we had WITH him, and him finishing his career here is something NONE of the other great QB's have ever done. #eternallygratefulTB12

BB's a smart guy. He sees Jimmy every single day. He knows how good he is. No way in a million years does he trade somebody like that who can continue this run when Tom is 40 years old without Kraft stepping in. No way. BB puts that sentimental crap aside and does what's best.

What a load of bullsh.t.

The intestinal fortitude of the younger fans has not been tested. They have no idea what 1-15, blackouts and almost relocating feels like. Its sheer hopelessness.

Agree. BB is not perfect. You can legitimately argue his draft record is mixed (like most teams). Success of his FA acquisitions also mixed. His in-game decisions also questionable (hard to find but they are there) but for god's sake hes #3 all time in career wins and #1 in SB championships.

Until there is a ~2 year drought and a trend of really bad decisions, you gotta give the guy the benefit of the doubt.

I was a fan since Parcells/Bledsoe came aboard so I didn't experience the truly crappy era you guys did. Hopefuly under the Krafts, it'll be a long time before we see that again.I just think going from Bledsoe,Brady, Jimmy and having 35 years of good qb play would have been pretty cool. I will say i'm slowly moving on but that article on espn drew me back in.

Jimmy wanted to be his own man. Well jimmy let's see you be the man in San Francisco and lead them to a couple of championships.

I am not from Boston, but was a Pats fan long before that. And no, I don't recall us being particularly pissed with Kraft, as we'd been through a string of really ****e owners prior to that including one who wanted to move the team to St. Louis.

The Parcells era ended because Parcells sold us out to the Jete, including bailing on the team going into a Super Bowl and stealing Curtis Martin. I don't think anyone at the time was on his side, quite the contrary, this is the origin of the animus we have with the Jete.

I'll admit to enjoying the Carroll era on the defensive side of the ball; loved his high risk/high reward style of defense and those were fun teams to watch. And it took me a while to realize that Grier was a disaster. But I don't have any recollection of anyone being upset with Kraft. Pete was wearing out his welcome, sure, but in retrospect he turned out to be a pretty decent coach. Kraft rode the wave of saving the team and then winning all those super bowls for a long time. And rightfully so. It was only when he came out as Roger's stooge that the fanbase turned on him. And rightfully so.
The point is, as boston sports fans we were very close, and Krafty f-d it up in 96...if you're not a Boston fan from the area u wouldn't understand

Yeah but this can’t be true .. some dude taking a **** in the bathroom at Gillette said we are the Browns.
Was he carrying a sack of footballs and calling himself The Deflator?

I see what you are saying but BB is not just smart but pragmatic. Brady now and the next year is better than Jimmy. I don't know Jimmy's ceiling but BB would have gone against his mantra if he traded Brady and went with Jimmy next year. Outside of cutting Brady or trading him, there was no other way of keeping Jimmy. Are you saying BB was getting rid of Brady after this season? Jimmy in 5 games has thrown 7TDs and 5Ints, he is good and could have been our Steve Young but there is still time to find there heir.

My biggest fear wound up just being delayed 13 years, and remains reality

All I want is to be able to simply watch my damn football team play each week, like I used to...

Like any normal fan, dreamed of seeing my team playing in the Super Bowl...only one chance, in 1986

He did say that Jimmy could run the offense that Tom could and there would hardly be a noticeable difference. He's praised him in public and it's obvious he liked Jimmy. I think BB was setting things up for Jimmy to take over next season. I've watched Jimmys niner games and it's clear he has elevated that team. Lightning quick release, good footwork, mobile, elusive, accurate, pin point throws that are on time. His YPA was significantly higher than hoyer and beathard. His completion percentage is significantly higher. All this while learning the playbook on the fly and playing with a bunch of bums on offense. Look at Peyton when he had to learn Kubiak's offense. Turned into a bum. For Jimmy to do what he did in the middle of the year like this. He was a keeper.
