One other physical comparison

Ras-I dowling

If we get R-I opposed to I-R, I will be very happy.

For all of the grumbling about Belichick's supposed love for "midget" CBs, he's traded for Talib and now Rowe, and drafted Dowling. (Rowe and Talib in particular could share custom-tailored clothes.) It's just really, really hard to find guys that size with the agility for the position.

How must one feel if they are so bad that they won't even be accepted by a team (with O-line issues) as a pretty much free part of a trade?

Joe Banner is right as often as a meteorologist

Apparenty it was HIS tweet that pi$$ed off belichick. He said the eagles fooled the pats, BB went right back to the eagles and said the deal was off. eagles caved.

There's probably a reason he's the former Eagles' president and not current.

Near 20 pages in one day for a guy who hasn't been on the team until today .... EPIC!

To be fair, more than half the thread is on Kline. So we should rename this thread to

Josh Kline was traded but he's still a farking patriot.

Google might be failing me in the quick search for the busy Eagle forums (like to hear opposing fans thoughts on a player they're giving up) but of all the Eagle forums I went to.. none of the threads about the trade had more than a reply or 2 or 3 when this thread was on page 8.

Patriot fans and Patsfans.com is and are awesome , wicked awesome.

so what happened exactly? Did Kline get traded?

My curiosity really got to me when considering why the Eagles traded Rowe after just one season.

So I went out and started sifting through his stats and reading about his rookie season in depth. The results of my research have left me sitting here extremely confused to as why they made the trade. He had a fairly decent rookie season. He was thrown into the deep in week 6 (single man coverage against Calvin Johnson...lol), but did fairly well after that. I found it interesting that he had a pretty good game against Michel Floyd and also John Brown, before leaving with a concussion (might we see him in action this week??)

This article I found here, really goes into depth and breaks down his season. Im really expecting him to eventually do big things here. A lot of Eagles Fans on their websites have been saying he's had a horrible preseason, and thats why they traded him. Well this article states that he had a horrible preseason last year also. I feel like he's done nothing to warrant being traded. This might have been a huge heist by BB. Lets hope they ease him into things over the next few games. With the level of talent on this D, he doesnt have to be great to do great things.

I highly recommend reading this article, it will get you even more excited about the trade and the upcoming season/future.

Rookie Eric Rowe was a bright spot on a dismal Eagles defense

It's unclear to me exactly what the hell is going on here, but from what I've read, it seems that Rowe remains here, the conditional draft pick still goes to Philadelphia and Kline is now back here, as well. New one to me...

So basically, New England got Rowe for a 3rd/4th rounder and also sent Kline except they didn't really send Kline, except that means they have 54 players and would either need to dump Kline or someone else to add Rowe...

Someone needs to be cut before Rowe can be added right.
edit: you won

The bottom line for me is that we traded an conditional 2018 fourth for a player who is immediately our 4th or 5th corner, and be valuable this year or next, and in 2018.

Additionally, the cap cost is minimal. Rowe gets paid $525K, $615K and $705K.

I think coverage ability is more important than height. I'll take a 5'10" guy who covers well over a 6'1 guy who doesn't.
I think it's severely overrated. Very few passes are completed to receivers just because they can reach higher than a corner who is in good position.

Not sure I agree with this. Lots of backs, for instance, could stay with Gronk, but he's just too tall, big, and strong for corners to reach around/up and bat the ball away.

Now this is starting to make sense. From that article: "ESPN’s Adam Schefter said that the Patriots and Eagles were close to working out this deal last week but weren’t able to consummate it until now. So the likeliest scenario is that both Kline and Rowe were kept on the roster merely to keep the trade alive until the conditional future pick could be decided."

n my opinion, cutting both Darryl Roberts or Cre'Von Leblanc seemed a little puzzling to me. Surely given how valuable corner is, given Logan Ryan could leave, there was some way to keep one given their promise. But with Rowe coming, it makes more sense to me.

Some comments on the comments:

5. The only question in my mind on this deal is to wonder why Rowe has reportedly performed so badly so far this season. Badly enough that rumors of him being cut were out there. Clearly the Pats had that question answered to THEIR satisfaction, though I wish someone will explain to me how this kid took a step back this pre season.

6. Interesting to note that Gilmore, the tall Cleveland CB who I desired, went for a 6th round pick in the 2017 draft, while Rowe took a 4th round pick in 2018. I wonder if Cleveland would have taken a 4th round for Gilbert, or were they simply afraid to look like the Pats farm club....or was Gilbert just that bad.

Gilbert went for less because apparently he has an attitude problem and at least the Cleveland people and veterans thought it was bad enough where it was limiting his development.

Rowe spent some time trying to change his footwork- sometimes depending on how much an athlete changes technique, it can take some time for the adjustments to stick. On an extreme note, for example Tiger Woods taking months and months of subpar results and sometimes brutal shots after making swing changes.
