As Mrs. B noted today, notes are essential as after 7 practice sessions
the days, times and players are all starting to blur into one homologous
mass of blood sweat and nylon.
As noted by others I will add to the concern voiced about the number of
players who have yet to step on the field. Practice seems full until you
realize that the likes of Harrison, Seymour, Hill, Graham, Branch,
Koppen..the list goes on and on,...have missed all or parts of the
training thus far. It is hard to imagine where they found all the kids
on the field now. It is also hard to imagine where any of them much less
the lot are gonna fit once the likes of Richard, Deion and Dan return to
the team. Basically any of the players on the training camp roster with
the notation FA-06 after the name of their school are basically just
cannon fodder awaiting the arrival of the Turk. Karen introduced me to
an interesting thing today. At the entrance to the TC complex is a tiny
white board where the fine folk from PFW update the additions (like we
need more players..) cuts and changes. Had i known about this a few days
ago it might have helped in trying to figure out who on the field doing
their Ryan Clairidge impression.
Caldwell the import from San Diego has been the hot pass catcher thus far.
I have no doubt that he makes the cut.
Next up, this kid Stone #14 has often displayed hands of stone. Seems
only a matter of time until homer Simpson begins singing the Stone
cutter song. While we today added #2 - Kelvin Kight (or is it Knight?)
we still have my choice to long shot hopeful to make the team, #1 Keron
Henry, WR out of UConn. He has been coming on over the past few days and
I think he has a shot.
One thing that is as certain as the rising of the sun is that when the
team is running multi unit drills and some one commits a miscue, ol'
Billy B. will extract his pad from his rear pocket and jot down the
offenders name. The last one I saw today was when Cassel threw over the
middle to WR Eric Davis #19 and the ball was..well lets just say it wasn't
caught.
On Saturday I had noticed that Maroney had a bit of a hitch in his
stride when he was walking between work stations.
On Sunday again at one time or another he seemed to have a less than
fluid gait. However when he ran he was as fast as the wind and as hard
to catch. Well on Monday I again noticed it and this time it seemed even
more pronounced. Now understand that during drills he is simply amazing.
In one 11 on 11 drill he ran to the line began to reverse directions to
the right and put a spin move on new DE Kader Drame that was as smooth
and natural as tornado in the middle of Kansas and left Drame grasping
at swirling air.
On Kick-off coverage drills he clearly had some limping going on in his
gait. So does he just have a naturally weird walk? or is there something
else at work here.
BTW, Maroneys jerseys are available in the pro-shop. Get yours soon and
be the second on the list to support our number 1 draft pick.
My favorite work station of Monday came in the morning.
A Rb and a LBor DB would lay on the ground about 20 feet apart heads
pointing towards each other. When the whistle blew both would jump to
their feet. The RB with the ball would try to get past the line where
the defenders feet had started, thus scoring a TD. The LB of course
tried to stop them from reaching the end zone. Some interesting match
ups. Most memorable of the day? Tedy B put a major smack down on Cobbs
on his first go round. On the other end of the spectrum Gus Scott went
to go after Kevin Faulk and was left standing with a stupid look on his
face as Kevin went left and had nary a finger laid on him.
Interesting thing about the OL. At the end of the last few session they
have come over in front of the stands and have lined up their helmets on
one of the lines on the field and stand in a circle. It get really weird
when Mankins breaks out the guitar and starts playing Kumbaya.
Despite the fact that others were missing, it did seem odd today when
Bruschi was in practice in the morning but Missing for the afternoon.
Well there might have been more but at this point I am too tired to
write more and 6 am comes early...
See you at the stadium tonight.
