Edelman Injury Seems to Now Be Confirmed

I don't even know how to describe my feeling today. I'm still excited and I'm sure I'll be amped when the banner drops and the game is about to start in two Thursdays, but I'm sure I'll instantly get sad again when I don't see Jules out there on the initial snap . . . and then none of the snaps thereafter.

I agree, I feel sick now, just so sad....hope he comes back even stronger after this!!!

In general, I agree with the sentiment that the offense has more than enough talent in the short-medium passing game to be formidable without Edelman.

What I wonder about is those segments of games last year, where the announcers just kept saying, "Brady to Edelman for a first down." At times it seemed to go on for entire drives. How much of that is about Edelman? How much about the play they ran, and it didn't matter much who the receiver was? How much was it that Brady just went there first because it is easy, and if he couldn't, he would have found someone else? I just don't know how to allocate answers to these options.

Won an SB without gronk....can win 1 without Edelman .... still loaded at wr and rb and te

Still more concerned about pass rush and Malcolm butler

****.

I do wonder how this affects Foster. He's a reserve RB but can absolutely play out of the slot too. Adds depth to both positions. They're stacked at WR still, but if Danny hurts himself again then you're down to Cooks, Hogan and Mitchell at WR pretty much. That's still a really good starting three, but Mitchell is banged up a lot himself so far in his career. They have Gronk too, but his injury history is long also. A guy like Foster would probably do them a lot of good.

Besides this injury Edelman also has extensive history. Outside of Hogan and maybe Cooks a ton of our offensive players can be considered brittle. Say what you want about Welker he was almost always available which is key in this league.

Instead of Brady to Edelman it will be Brady to someone else

This team got screwed more than any other team in the preseason losing rivers and now likely edelman. The offense might be fine but they will have to change their play calling a lot more. Mitchell has to take a big leap.

I was just about to write a post that compared to most teams, the Pats have done really well with major injuries this preseason. Just one starter and a rookie 2nd or 3rd stringer...seems like most other teams have done worse, some much worse.

You lose your primary chain mover. Edelman was a BIG reason (Hogan as well) for why the Pats were league leaders in YAC in yards and per reception AVG. This is a really tough loss and I think shines the spotlight on Brandin Cooks even more. But even though all reports have been positive with the Brady/Cooks connection, there's no reason for me to believe at this time that he can duplicate the kind of chemistry that Jules has with Brady. Amendola is the other guy we'll have to rely on more, but the durability thing with him is always the question and they were able to keep him healthy in 2015 until they started to have to rely on him more. *Sigh* This just sucks.

But as Brady would say, "Nobody feels bad for the Patriots." They'll figure it out. And I suppose the one bright spot, if there can be one after something like this, is that it happened now and not in November, December or January. They have some time before the season and during the month of September, when every team is still figuring things out, to make adjustments. It will be those crucial periods in games, though, that we'll likely see Jules' absence showing up more.

I feel terrible for Jules but i expect the team to survive this injury and be fine.

Still the clear Super Bowl favorite

You hope he can bounce back like Welker did after his knee injury in Houston. Jules is a little older, but you cannot criticize his heart.

If it is an ACL tear, I would not want to see Jules rush back. A repeat of that injury could have him calling it a career. He needs quickness and cutting ability, both of which can be challenged by that injury.

The Pats will be fine in his absence, but they are more dangerous with him on the field.

No way to sugar coat this.
But if any HC and QB can overcome it, the Pats have them.

Julian Edelman owes this team and its fanbase nothing after all he has given, especially on his "catch for the ages" against Atlanta.
He's 31 and will be trying to return after an injury that's hard to come back from in the first season after the year lost to surgery and rehab.

You have our prayers as you work through this, Julian,...and many many, thanks as well.

This sucks... 2017 NFL season just got tighter and the pats got easier to defend, bigly....luckily this happened on August 25, not November 25....edelman is Brady's consistent 3-5 yard from LOS first down machine, hopefully amendola can step up.... Problem is Gronkowski, Mitchell, Amendola are all injury prone... Let us pray to the Good Lord that these guys are active and healthy all season and esp when it matters mosr
Jesus dude.

Might be a crappy thing to say, but it might be "good" in the the sense that Brady will have to find the open man a little more often and not just force it to his safety valve. He rarely does that, but he has done it from time to time. Gronk is also a bit of a "when all else fails, force it here" option, but he's so big that if the pass is off or he's well covered then it's just incomplete more often than when throwing to the smaller Edelman.

In 09 a rookie Edelman filled in for Welker for a few games and played well...I think I recall over 100 yards from n a loss to the Jets. He was still a raw project then as well.

Carr has much more grooming than 09 Edelman. He basically has been training to be an over the middle YAC guy.

Just like they froze out WW at the start of the 2012 season....

Def bum about this, but we are still loaded

Random but any chance we give steve smith a call?

No passes for Edelman were intercepted last year - of course only 5 INTs.
