Edelman Injury Seems to Now Be Confirmed

I sometimes think that these guys are so powerful that they are capable of putting incredible amounts of stress on their joints and ligaments.

I do wonder if Jules felt something prior to the actual injury.

No matter the answer it really does just suck that he's out.

I think that might be a possibility as well. The human body has limits.

I know hes not a monster of a man but with all that strength, quickness, agility and speed, he can generate a ton of torque when hes changing directions. All those bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments need to work in perfect symmetry and precise sequence so they support each other's motions. Any misfire or weakness can lead to injury.

All I know is hes made that move 1000s of times and this time the result was incredibly unfortunate and ****ty

I read somewhere in humans, the "space" between the skull and brain is different thus potentially playing a role in why some people are more susceptible to concussions than others.

The question is...is it better to have less or more space/cushion? No clue.

That might play into the genetics angle you are theorizing.

Another mystery where we are all searching for answers.

I'd think that the brain in the skull is like passengers in a car. The less restrained they are from bouncing around in the interior during a collision, the more likely they are to get injured. So more space would mean more vulnerability.

Continuing with the car analogy, for years now, car manufacturers have been engineering auto bodies and frames to be more flexible/collapsible in order to absorb and redirect the energy from impact around and away from the passenger compartment. Meanwhile, it seems to me that football helmet manufacturers had simply been making helmets harder and more durable instead.

If a football player getting injured is effecting your life that much might be time to reevaluate some things

Especially if you live in the greater Houston area. Otherwise, meh, go hit the heavy bag.

Far cry from this time 4 years ago, when we were all super stoked to have Amendola starting in the slot and about to show Welker exactly what he was missing.

Seriously, having D.A. taking 40+ snaps a game out of the slot sounds like the royal road to IR. I think, ideally, Mitchell would have at least as many snaps as Danny over the course of a game. That knee is suddenly a really big deal...

Don't overlook James White as a recipient of some of those targets.

No way Dola can take that many snaps. It will be a combination effort - Dola, Mitchell (who still will be outside some), likely Burkhead and maybe working Carr in some.

That's fine as Edelman was an outside receiver a lot. I don't have a count on when he lined up inside but if Amendola takes them and Mitchell is healthy enough to take the others we'd be fine. Which is why Lucien or another outside receiver "replacing" Edelman is fine - it would be two guys, Amendola and another, replacing both of Edelman's roles; hopefully with Carr on the PS in case Amendola gets hurt.

Edelman's role this year would have been more as a slot guy. With the addition of Cooks and having 3 outside guys. So we are faced with replacing mainly what would have been slot snaps.

Question on Edelman injury

Just wondering if he recovers and we make it to the playoffs will he be eligible to comeback then or is he totally out for the whole season?

Attention we have reached step 3.. next up Step 4

Step 1.) Denial
Step 2.) Anger
Step 3.) Bargaining.
Step 4.) depression
Step 5.) Acceptance

Jules is done for the season. even if he somehow came back from an ACL tear in 7 months, He'd be out of football shape, and sync with the team.

You will have your answer on cut down day. In order to be eligible to return from the IR, you have to be on the 53 man roster at some point during the season. So if the Pats put him on IR and not the 53 man roster, then even if Mr. Myagi showed up and did that leg thing, he still could not come back.

ACL tears are at minimum a 6 month recovery, especially the way Jules plays. So I fully expect the Pats to put him on IR before the season starts.

He'll be good to pace back and forth on the sidelines in the Superbowl....

Super Bowl 52 is 5 months away.

Even if they made it and somehow wanted him to play in that game, 5 months wouldn't be enough recovery time. Adrian Peterson's recovery took 8 months before he came back and had an MVP season.

Yea, no... He ain't coming back until next season.

Man, was that a costly misstep.

I've never seen "bargaining" specified as part of the equation, but it certainly makes sense.
