Drake Maye has arrived . . .

Maye is firmly in the MVP conversation as a 23 year old 2nd year player. He could become only the 7th player in NFL history to win the MVP in his 2nd year (Jim Brown, Earl Campbell, Dan Marino, Kurt Warner, Pat Mahomes and Lamar Jackson).

If he does... kid is on track to be a Hall of Fame QB. which is ridiculous to be able to say without being hyperbolic. There's a chance we're watching history (again, just years removed from the Brady era). Can't wait 'til Sunday.

If they started Maye game 1 2024, do you believe he would be worse off or still as good? I know many wanted him to start and some wanted him to sit.

Worse because he would have been pummelled even more behind a really bad offensive line. Brissett took a beating.

Because a bunch of Maye's "sacks" were him running and getting tackled for a loss of a yard or two.
Also running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage gets credited as a sack for the defense… which is why veteran QB’s do their offensive line a solid and throw it away instead. Up until a couple games ago Drake wasn’t throwing it away. Young QB’s need to learn the tricks of the trade, Drake is no different.

Anyone who attended camp or really watched preseason last year saw Drake was not ready to start week one.

It had nothing to do with throwing the ball. He couldn’t line the offense up presnap and get the plays in on time. The operation was a mess.

He also played almost exclusively from shotgun in college. He had a lot to learn, he wasnt ready. The offensive line being a disaster would have only made it worse.

Was it him, or the instructions or the supervision?

Jacoby Brissett didn’t have his issues, it was him.

Maye was the least experienced QB draft prospect available. It’s not surprising.

I wish the name is “ Maye, Drake Maye” rather got traction vice Drake “Drake Maye” Maye.

He would have won enough that Mayo's probably still here
He was getting no support from the offensive coaches to scheme guys open or even get them where they were supposed to be. All while getting destroyed behind that line. And if somehow he did win a couple more game, we probably have a worse LT this season, which is a contributor to our success. I think it worked out perfectly.

If Drake wants MVP he needs to pad his stats in this one. Not just play great but really run up those numbers, cause the numbers matter.

I think the Luck + Mahomes comparison to how Drake plays is pretty spot on. I think that is closer to his game than Rodgers.

Luck is a very good comparison overall especially in terms of pocket movement, size and football IQ.
More like Allen than Mahomes to me with the off-script plays and running ability.

Mahomes is actually a below average processor and scrambles a ton if first read isn't open. He is elite at scrambling and can make up for his lack of processing skills. Some of the off-script stuff is similar but not quite the same.

Mayes throwing motions is 100% Aaron Rodgers. Luck was more of a hold the ball high type thrower. Drake is more of a Rodgers thrower, and I think is more accurate because of it.

This requires 150 plays to appear; in any case, Shedeur Sanders is on the McCarthy/Ward track so far.

They have had the weakest schedule in decades and it’s really not debatable….its ok to admit this.
Maye has nevertheless faced the top three pass defenses and thrown for the highest or second-highest yardage they've allowed all season. Their schedule is easy because opposing offenses have largely been inept.
