It's easy, and only takes a few moments.I could be wrong but I think one of those early TD runs was an at the line audible. No one can be amazing at everything , each QB has their owns tools. But Maye absolutely still has room to grow.
He is still focused on the new offensive system which is enough to process as is. He is more than capable of adding the pre snap stuff which would take him to a new level.
Areas Maye can still improve a lot in.
Pre snap read/change play or protection
Moving DBs with his eyes
Using pump fakes within the pocket.
These are some areas that can add a lot to his game. You can't learn everything at once and he's still young. But hopefully he gets to one done this year and the rest working by the start of next season.
Considering he is this good already but still has areas of improvement left to incorporate, I think he can be the best QB in the league.
Sam Donald?
Last night, especially in the 1st quarter, it seemed Maye was soft tossing his passes.A. That Maye seemingly already has way more TOUCH than i recall Brady having; and TB was more known as a touch & placement QB.
He did great on that drive. If he can do that every drive he'll be hard to stop. i don't expect him to ever do the mental stuff the way Brady did, that was his bread and butter. But if he can get to the next tier down in that ability. Absolutely savage.
In a post in another thread by @Guts; the next instagram down was this one above about Brady's arm.
---After re-watching these plays from years ago and thinking about the TB - Maye comparison I am kind of amazed to think.....
A. That Maye seemingly already has way more TOUCH than i recall Brady having; and TB was more known as a touch & placement QB.
B. That TB threw balls on SUCH A ROPE - it was amazing. And Maye is a great touch long ball thrower; but has nowhere near that kind of rope-ball throw in his arsenal.
But I'm recalling that that arm strength was NOT TB's skillset way back in 2001 - 2004; he trained & weight-lifted and Tom House trained his arm to get to that level.
So that is what makes me the most excited about the next couple of years. If DM can work like TB did and include that arm-strength into his repertoire...... WOOOOAHHH NELLY. Hold me back.
Greg Cosell on Drake Maye more than a year ago: "I'm not sure he's quite as raw as people think. I thought he was the toolsiest quarterback in this draft."
Just adjusting to PV = nRTLast night, especially in the 1st quarter, it seemed Maye was soft tossing his passes.
Initially, my thought was that Maye's grip was affected by the cold and compensating for it.
It's also possible Maye was addressing his, at times, 1st quarter overthrows by purposely taking something off the ball.
Or a combination of both.
Regardless, it worked.
What was he, 11 for 11 to start off the game?
Pocket presence is getting there it's not perfect yet.Maye is always looking downfield, but also can sense pressure. All the traffic does not seem to really effect him.
Its a gift.
That pocket presence is improving.
Yesterday I saw several Bradyesque suttle moves in the pocket. Nothing crazy just small climbs of the pocket ladder to buy some time. The stuff Tom made a living on
Then he has those Drake Maye type evasive moves that Brady just could never do probably compares more to Mahomes.
The more he plays the more both these instincts will hone.
IIRC, it was one of the CBS folks who asked, in earnestness, Does he even have a ceiling? He certainly fixes things fast. After the big turnover game against Pittsburgh, I believe its just 4 total turnovers over 8 games. And after taking 11 sacks vs cle/atl hes taken 1 in each of the past 2 games. more check downs and throwaways. Think about this kids ceiling
