Don't like Edelman's being so underpaid

well its a good thing you're not a GM.

Jules got paid exactly what teams thought he was worth, he seems pretty happy here. and honestly this is probably the only team in the league that he would fit with.

I think he'd lose his **** on another team when he sees how crappily they are run. Look at blount, he was on a trash team, came here had an great run, went to another crappily run team and basically just quit because he didnt want to deal with their ****, now hes back and its been great.

Jules would probably be in the news for punching people because they were not giving 100%

It is a little unfair to Edelman to call him injury prone at this point. Since becoming a starting wide receiver he has played 16 games in 2 seasons I believe plus 14 in another (missing 2 games at the end of the 2014 season when Pats had things locked up). Plus all 10 playoff games in that time. Only significant injury was broken foot - missing 7 games.

I'm uncomfortable with Edelman's salary being so out of line with his value to the team.

Actually his "value" to the team is partly because his salary is so reasonable. That is what value is. By paying reasonable salaries to players they can build a "team", you know..one that goes out and wins super bowls.

As much as I love Edelman I'm not offering an extension. He's about to be 31 and could be very close to the end as a slot guy. I might give him an appreciative $2m bump this year like we gave Nink (and possibly Chung?) the last few years but thats it.

Edelman is great in ways that other receivers can't even imagine. Edelman in my view changes the whole nature of the offense in a way other receivers can't do.

Please explain how Edelman is great in ways and changes our offense in ways a Green, Jones, Beckham or Brown couldnt.

start a gofundme

I'll donate

If you give players a raise when they outperform their contract, you do not get a decrease from a player who underperforms. In a capped league paying a guy you don't have to because he 'deserves it' is competitive suicide.

Besides shouldn't we be concerned about the underpaid police, teachers, nurses, etc, instead of how many millions a guy gets to play football?

That would be interesting. What if adoring fans raised another $3MM to give a favorite and maybe undervalued player a raise? There would be a new NFL ruling within a heartbeat.

As a fan, I think it's poor aesthetics that Edelman makes less than Dola has the past three years.

Maybe after JE11 retires, he can rent out his 3 or 4 Superbowl rings to wildly richer WRs like TY Hilton and A.J. Green who never got to see one before.

For sure

the Police, teachers, and nurses are my priority on a football forum

Not disagreeing with your point but I think Edelman has earned additional earning potential with his celebrity status in NE which will continue long after he's retired. For example I just purchased Troy Brown's book. He's in that special group of Pats along with Brown, Willie, Bruschi etc...

This right here.

Go onto Edelman's twitter account; he makes money selling T-shirts and other Pats memorabilia, and he is opening up a restaurant in Boston. On top of that, there are so many former Patriots players who still work int he league either as coaches or broadcasters. Edelman may have also been irrelevant and out of football if he had gone to another team in the 2013 offseason. I can guarantee you he would not be as fulfilled as he is now.

In addition to that, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes with the Patriots. I'm sure a lot of players grumble about money, since almost every player on the roster outproduces their salary, hence a consistently winning club in the cap era.

Is he opening a restaurant? The Edelman's Catch thing was a joke, amirite?

I didn't realize the football forum was your life. Sorry, my bad.

It sucks for Edelman, but that is the way of the NFL. He was a free agent and only the Giants showed interest and they didn't offer much more than the Patriots. He is considered a slot receiver and most of the league do not value slot receivers especially coming from the Patriots because they all seem to do good here.

Edelman left money on the table last time he was a FA because he cares more about winning and playing with Brady (these things are closely related) than making every dollar he can. Sure, he could've spent the last 2 years earning 10-20% more while chasing hospital balls from Blake Bortles for below-.500 teams, but he decided not to.

He's not being taken advantage of or anything, he's just decided that, like Brady and Bruschi and Harrison and Amendola, etc., New England is a situation worth leaving some money on the table for. Lots of people make that choice in their own lives. I've left money on the table because I like where I work, and I consider that to be a luxury for people who make enough that they don't have to chase every dollar to enjoy a quality of life that works for them. Edelman clearly has that luxury too, to say the least.

Says the guy with over 30,000 posts. Are you projecting a little bit?

Clearly I was advocating for discussing football matters on a football forum, where you tried to drag in some nonsense that has nothing to do with Patriots football.

Almost as if this forum was your life....

Is the concept of a football forum for football discussion too much for you to wrap your head around?

"Welcome to the PatsFans.com messageboard, the home for football talk here at PatsFans.com"

From the header. Also, I didn't tell you what to talk about. I just pointed out what you brought up had no relevancy here.

Silly me, I thought this was football discussion

The fact that I added in a comment that it is silly to be 'worried' about how much Julian Edelman is paid, fits the topic.
Nice try.
