Don indicated last year that he wanted to continue on the team, as a coach. He is certainly a great role model. Welcome Don!!

It doesn't seem to have affected their ability to get free agents, though.

No one wants to play for us, haven't you heard?:D

Seriously, great news.

I'm very happy that DD will be back with the team. It is always good to see the good guys get to continue in football after his playing days were cut short. As to why you don't see it happen, has more to do with the hours the players know the coaches put in, than the opportunities that exist. While certainly not as physically demanding, players see that for every hour THEY put in during the season, the coaching staff is putting in 2. The Players know that the is very little off season for the coaches, while their off season is months long. Coaching is hard, especially at that level. The players know that. Its not for everyone

Don Davis was a high quality guy in the locker room, his continued presence on the staff and under the tutelage of Mike W. is all good for this franchise.

This is a career DD hae expressed interest in a couple of years ago. I am glad he will get to do it with the Pats.

This is a great point. A lot of times fans say "bring back (insert sentimental favorite here) as a coach," but that's not how most players want to spend their hard-earned retirement.

Congrats to Davis, and to the team for a great hire. Congrats also to Belichick, a hard-ass coach who nonetheless earns enough respect and loyalty from his team to have 3 of his former players on the coaching staff.

Yeah, didn't Tom Jackson say the players all hate Belichick.

Met Don Davis at my school last week. He came talked about the spiritual life in the NFL. He talked about playing for Dungy and Belichick. He said that Dungy is one of the most genuine and down to earth guys he ever met. Said Tony showed him a great deal about spirituality and life. Also mentioned how Bill was not that big of a religious guy, but in fact, he is an agnostic. Mentioned how when you played for Dungy, it was like playing for your father and that you did not want to disappoint him. He said you played for Belichick and did not want to mess up because you were afraid of the guy, played more out of fear.

Not only is he going to work with the strength staff but he is serving as the teams spiritual leader too. Very very intelligent and bright man. Very animated. Said the hardest hit he ever took was when Mike Alstott ran into him, like a truck...

Good for Don!

Congratulations Don. May your new career be as rewarding as your last one.

The Belichick coaching tree just sprouted another bud: the Patriots hired former player Don Davis, 34, as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.

[After quoting the boxing item from the Globe's story] For some reason, I have this visual of Brady and Cassel sporting Bike shorts, tube socks, and bare chests ... and pillow fighting. All while giggling uncontrollably.
This blogger is a sick and demented man, which makes for a more entertaining read then anything Felger has written in a while.
