What do you want a corner to do to be considered fanstastic? Excellent run support, solid tackling, 2 Ints and from what I remmeber 1 completion allowed. This is as good as it gets.
Over the course of the season Devin will display he is bad corner. People are too high over the interceptions because Fitzpatrick is a turnover machine.
So true.
People are dancing on the roof as if McCourty picked the pocket of a QB with the caliber of play like a Brees, Rodgers or Rothlesberger. Fitzpatrick is mediocre at best. If McCourty steps up vs those QBs, then he will have played excellent.
Peyton Manning isnt himself either. His arm strength isnt what it was.

Well we can't say you're not a forward thinker... you've already got your excuse lined up in case McCourty has his fourth good game out of five this season.
Congrats!!!!!!!
This post is even more ignorant that the kudzif post.
If McCourty's play was as bad as your posting...Buffalo would have hung a 3 handle on us.
Agreed. The apologists on this forum go overboard sometimes in defense of the players. McCourty didn't deserve to be made the sole bearer of blame last week but he did in fact screw the pooch on a few key plays and deserved criticism. This week McCourty should get the credit he deserves for bouncing back and playing a huge game against the Bills.
When players do bad they get blamed and when they do well they get too much glory but that's the nature of fanhood. I am encouraged by McCourty's play against Buffalo and hope he continues to build off it. Hopefully we see the re-emergence of the very promising player we saw his rookie season.
Manning isnt the same, but if folks want to beleive that he is playing like he was pre injury go for it.
That is just so out of touch with reality.McCourty has been, and might always be a player that plays like a flip of a coin....sometimes you get heads (good play) and sometimes you get tails (horrid play)
In other words, never trust Devin on any given sunday ... as inconsistent as they come
Really? The apologists go overboard?
The forum can post about cutting Gronk after some fumbles in the Cleveland game, or how we should have kept Cassell over Brady, or how Woody won't even make the team, or how Ridley is a wasted pick as a third-down back...
Really, the apologists are the ones going overboard???
McCourty has been blamed for catches made on other corners. He's been blamed for excessive penalties when in fact, he only has 2 (and 1 was very dubious). He's been blamed for losing an entire game by himself. He gets blamed for dropping "easy" INTs where he's tackled mid-grab. And when he actually catches an easy INT, he's blamed for being burned. And when he actually isn't burned and makes a great diving INT, it's either totally ignored or dismissed or it doesn't matter because the QB sucks.
Yes, he deserves some criticism. But make it based on reality, that's all I ask. I'm tired of pointing out that McCourty isn't #24. Or #25. Or #29. Or that he doesn't lead the league in pass interference penalties. Or how he isn't the worst corner in the league. Just be fair.
It's not that much to ask for or expect for a humble kid who is a respected leader and major contributor on this team.
McCourty put himself into several positions to make interceptions against Joe Flacco. Unfortunately they didn't stick, but how do you explain that given he was able to put himself in the same playmaking positions against Fitzgerald?Over the course of the season Devin will display he is bad corner. People are too high over the interceptions because Fitzpatrick is a turnover machine.
When I think of an excellent performance I think of Law, Woodson, Revis, Sanders and co at their best as the bench mark. McCourty's performance today would have been a smidgeon below that (in my opinion), thus my rating of very good.
1 sack, 3 interceptions, 6 pass defensed, 2 forced fumbles and no completions would get an excellent rating from me.I don't know what you think those guys who do in a game that is typical of their excellence that exceeds 2 Ints, good run support, solid tackling, and allowing 2 catches for 23 yards on 7 targets in a game where the opponent threw it 39 times.
I don't know what more you want him to do?
I think you just don't want to place him in the company of those names, but it this one game, he played at that level. He would have to do it many, many more times to be considered as good a corner as those players.
But I will tell you it was much better than Ty Law or Darren Woodsons median performance in the NFL.
