Devin McCourty loses captaincy

I'm sure he'll find it. He probably just left it in his other pants.

From what I read nobody replaced McCourty, correct?

It's simply a case of the coaches deciding to have five captains rather than six?

I am sure the usual suspects will ignore those details attempt to make this into a huge story.

That's actually what I took from it. I didn't see anything about who replaced him, I think we just went with fewer than in previous seasons.

I would foresee compensation to be in the area of a highly paid safety, which would likely be in the range of about 7-8 million AAV.

Dashon Gholston makes $8.2/year. I don't see McCourty in his class. I would hope more like $5-6M/year

Hard to compare the two as they're both completely different from one another. Goldson is a thumper and McCourty has a lot of range. To me, they'd be a perfect combination.

Don't players vote for captaincy? Obviously not enough players viewed him captain material this year. Maybe some of the players who voted for him in the past didn't vote for him again this year.

Or Bill just went with 2 from offense, 2 from defense and 1 special teams

I could see Schiano running up the score on the Pats once he gets wind that one of his former players got de-captainated.

I believe last year was the FIRST TIME we had more than 5 captains.

One of the stories stated that players vote on slips of paper and the coaches tally the votes and announce results 2 days later. (also was a "quote" [?verified?] from a former player who said 'we always wondered if the coaches changed the totals' [IMO just thrown in to smear - make it a controversy).

So, based on that voting process my suspicion is that LAST YEAR there was a TIE in the voting for DEF CPT #2. So they made 3 D Cpts.

This year I bet there was a clear #1, #2, #3 and # 3 was odd man out. That is the SIMPLEST answer as to why -per rules of logic - simplest=most likely true.

IMO, Nothing to see here but the mediots trying to spin it into a controversy
---- if the first story gets somethng going; you can do lazy writing with no research required for at least one-day and if you are lucky a whole week.

With Mayo's injury following Wilfork's, McCourty will likely have his captaincy restored as soon as this week.

What would be interesting would be if OTHER defensive captains were added -- Ninkovich would be the obvious choice.

One more bragging bump on this subject. I'll stop now.
