Devin McCourty "I didn't think I would be THIS good"

Classic.....I think everyone feels the same way Devin. But we are happy as can be that you are that good.

Long as don't let it go to your head and you remember the only thing harder than getting to the top is staying there. Realize you can't rest on your laurels and it gets harder to improve each and every year in the league, but that's what it takes to meet increasing expectations and become a champion... It's a short career, albeit potentially a very lucrative one and guys need to realize that it's incumbent on them to make the most of it...lest someone else come along who will.

Thankfully he has a coach that will rip him apart when it's required.

Was going to start a new thread on this, but might as well put it here.

Asomugha and Revis. Look at pictures or video of them and they are dead in the eyes and face. Very little movement in their faces.

Now look at Devin. He is exactly the same. Focused until the end. Be it an interview, on the sideline or after a game. He has that same look that Revis and Nnamdi have.

This kid is special.

Hell of a pickup.

Just remember that in a couple months when the Pats draft someone you've never heard of or expected.

Good point, the sky will surely be falling on the day after the draft.. oh the horrors!!!

After being here for one full cycle, these seem to be the three worst times to be on the board:

1. Game day
2. After a playoff loss
3. Draft day

There is about as good of a chance this year of having a draft like 2010 as there would be in 2006 (minus the FA deals on that day)

Every year is different

I would be extremely shocked if this years draft turns out better or even close to last year picks...last years draft will be tough to beat even with these extra picks this year which will be moved around for sure

Tru dat niko. There will certainly be some gnashing of teeth if BB selects either: a 3-4 DE no one has heard of, or a late round/small name OLB that no one had on their board.

The jets loss was bad even in game chat, I can't even begin to fathom the fail going on in game thread that day.

Draft day was rough because the NFL screwed with the format. That left people hanging, on all sides of the discussion. This year, day one will probably feature a lot more people saying "I'll wait until tomorrow", rather than going through the hassle of analyzing one pick and then getting trashed over such a small sample.

As I noted last year...it must be very demoralizing practicing against Randy Moss (at least back then). So like McCourty seems to have thrived while others...well they develop confidence problems....

I remember last preseason, I was literally laughed at when I suggested this kid was going to be our starting CB. Man, how things have changed. This kid is the 2nd coming of Ty Law and hopefully he surpasses him eventually as one of the all time Pats greats. A CB who can defend and tackle?! Love this kid! :rocker:

Still gleaming over his outstanding rookie season,Devin speaks about how happy he was with his pro bowl season.

Former Rutgers star Devin McCourty didn't expect such a successful rookie season with New England Patriots | NJ.com

This was sloppy headline writing by the Globe when they picked up the interview...and it's obviously been continued.

McCourty never said that he expected to "be this good," but rather that he never expected to "do this good." I guess it could be subject to debate, but I think those are two slightly different statements. I think that the "do this good" statement is a little less in your face than "be this good."

Love this guy. He will be my next jersey in the offseason. Still hard to think about football however..

I was very impressed with the level headed maturity Devin presented himself with tuesday night. He is already prepareing, working out and studying film for next year. As far as the quote about how good he is, it came from his studying of film on his own technique as his college coach had trained him to do to recognize improvements he can make on his own game. In doing so he could see a progression in skills from the training at the pro level. He appears driven to improve upon his rookie season, but also gives the impression of an ordinary guy.he was wearing Jeans, tee shirt, sneekers, mentioned of attending bible study every thursday, and seemed to enjoy talking more of his youth and upbringing, and family then his new found celebrity. He actualy seemed embaresed when recieveing compliments one on one. Also it was nice seeing and speaking with Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston at the event.
