Defense against a running QB

We don’t have run stuffers in the middle. Our linebackers are below average. You cannot expect a pass rusher such as Judon to sit around and stop the run. That is not what we brought him in for.

This team is been relying in bringing corner blitzes to try to stop the run. That is not going to work. You need two middle linebackers like prime Mayo or Hightower to do that.

It will probably take a major trade and 1st or 2nd round draft pick to fix this.

I sure hope, when Belichick does retire, he does not convince Kraft to keep his kids around on the next coaches staff.

That won’t happen with an outside candidate, but I could see the Belichick boys getting a gift job from a staff of one Of Belichick’s assistants
Only reason his son is the DC is because it’s his son. He wouldn’t sniff that position with the other 31 teams.

For those who haven't been paying attention, here's the current strategy:

You are en fuego tonight
I’m not upset at you and you quoting me about the team speed would not be “showing me up.” If I said it, obviously I was wrong. I just don’t remember - in fact I thought I said just the opposite
you two ****post at each other right now before you rebuild civilization beginning with this bulletin board.

It was just bad run fits last night.
Not necessarily disagreeing but this was too obvious an answer so I had to look for myself when I had time. Bentley has terrible fits every game but Chicago used some stuff they haven't put on film all year that definitely caught us by surprise.

1)unprepared
2)bullied
3)bad fits
4)weve had trouble with QB power for years now.
I wonder if it was Barmore's absence as well as Dugger getting dinged.....
Noted right after the game in my thread for different reasons. Barmore and the attention he gets. Pressure he creates. Dugger cleans up so much and is our most important Saf/LB imo.

Going to post later but this game was embarrassing.

We also were playing Collins out there....if we are playing a guy we let go last year...and resigned off the street...no bueno. May as well bring back Hightower....

Man, he looked SLOW too. Whole defense did really. But Collins especially looked slower and wider than I remember. I think the thought process was to keep Judon fresh for passing downs so he could more easily keep up with Fields, and use Collins as a bigger edge presence for running downs. Goes without saying that plan did not pan out overall (though Judon did make several big plays).

the best way to handle a running QB like we've been facing a lot is to just ****ING HIT THEM.

I don't care if they just stepped out of bounds, or are about to step out of bounds, LAY SOME ****ING WOOD ON THE GUY. Make him understand there are going to be consequences when they run.

Too many times I saw our guys let up while fields was in bounds, or still running, to avoid a roughing the passer penalty.

Idgaf about a 15 yard penalty if it means the running QB is going to slide earlier to avoid a second big hit.

Collins was on the street because he was recovering from surgery. He apparently wasn’t healthy yet when they worked him out on 9/20, because he didn’t sign to the PS until two weeks later.

I worry about Judon wearing down again this year. We really need Uche and other guys to start getting to the damn QB.
