What are some thoughts on fixing the defense.
I’ve got a few bullet points:
1) Really hoping Barmore is healthy and able to go
2) Keion White takes a step forward
3) Bentley comes back and helps control the middle
4) Draft Abdul Carter
5) Find a legit #2 corner opposite Gonzo
6) Tell Dugger to figure s*** out or go plant your *** on the bench

What else do ya got

Agree with all this ^ including Abdul Carter.

sign a free safety
Maybe. I'm of the belief that if the FS is a part time gig, then the FS may currently be on the team...like Hawkins who I think is not as bad as people think. I blame Mayo.

Hawkins is certainly a possibility.

He is a free agent, so signing Hawkins would be "signing a free safety".

Was Mayo really the play-caller and responsible for any failures in the play of the secondary?

My primary point was that we need 4 safeties and we have 3 returning: Peppers, Dugger and Pettus. IMO, free safety does not need to be a part-time gig.

Do you think Jonathan Jones would be a fit at that FS position. Know he’s a UFA, but always thought FS would fit him better. And then draft a FS type in the middle rounds to develop

Not at 32 years old next season. We need a player in that (and many other positions) to be much younger to grow with the team and be around awhile.

I don't. I think that Jones is a very nickel back and an OK outside corner.

I don't understand the logic of wanting to sign him as a free agent free safety. I think that we can sign a better free safety.

That being said, it does make sense to sign him as a corner. We only now have Gonzo, Austin and Marcus Jones. I don't count STers Dial and Bolden, although they are OK in case of a couple of injuries. We should re-sign Jones AND sign or draft an additional corner.

Hawkins stinks

You need a free safety on every down. Hawkins is awful.

Hawkins is not a possibility. Hawkins sucks. Goodbye.

At the end of the season Mapu was playing FS who you do not mention.

Jones is old and clearly lost a step. We have 125,000,000 we need to do better than relying on a guy who is getting progressively worse.

Can we get Sweat and Mack? Or something else for the edge in FA?

Then draft Will Johnson instead of Carter. With Johnson and Gonzo we can stay with our in the box safeties like Peppers, Dugger, and Mapu. Then we just need a DT and a LB or 2.

Did notice that Vrabels ILBs at Tennessee were of the smaller and faster variety.
Agreed with everything you posted. Yes Bentley and a healthy Barmore make a world of different. Also a healthy peppers and Dugger as well. Both those guys were banged up last season. I feel like adding a chase young at DE, Kinlaw at LB, and some depth at NT/DT helps stop the run.. I can say with confidence Vrabel isn't going to allow his defense to be run on.

Need a quality fattie to clog the middle. Something we really haven't had since BigVince....need to stop the run so whatever that takes...

Interior pressure/run defense would be a great addition. Even an Alan Branch, don't necessarily need a world beater (although I'd love one!), just someone who can be a presence.

Exactly. Dogchow is about as JAG as it gets and I "think" the rest like Barmore (if he returns) and White would be great with that pressure...need to find a replacement.
