Defense 2025

Hoping Abdul Carter lasts to #4 in the draft and then they go CRAZY with FA signings on the defensive side of the ball.

S Jevon Holland
EDGE Azeez Ojulari
CB Charvarius Ward
LB Dre Greenlaw
DT BJ Hill

Defensive depth chart would be:

IDL: Barmore, Hill, Godchaux (White on passing downs too)
EDGE: Ojulari, White, Carter, Jennings (some Tavai as well)
LB: Greenlaw, Bentley, Tavai, Mapu
CB: Gonzalez, Ward, Marcus Jones
S: Holland, Dugger, Peppers

With good coaching I think that can be an elite unit. It's a lot of money, but we have plenty of cap space for them all now and in the future.

I think you "solve" the defense for a few years with that type of splurge. On offense, focus on stop gap type of signings and hope for viable long term solutions via the draft over the next few years.

I’m hoping several players - especially Duggar - rejuvenate with health, coaching, and desire. But I’d echo posters wanting to invest the available cash towards shoring up as many positions as possible.

Such a disappointing year on that side of the ball. I know three key pieces (Barmore, Peppers, Bentley) played very little and that’s 3/11 of the projected starters. But there were too many plays where effort and poor tackling lead to awful results.

With everything favoring the offense, I think it is important to purge our defense of guys that do not make splash plays. Simply solid isn't good enough imo. We need players that are a threat to get their hands on an interception or two when in zone. It is very rare to see someone jump a route. Brandon Spikes was one of the slowest linebackers on earth and he was a threat in zone. Guys like Tavai need to go. Guys like Wise and Godchaux do not get sacks and are not dominant against the run. Waste of money imo.

I can appreciate reliable tackling but turnovers need to be more of a priority.

Better go young with prove it deal for veterans in age 25/26 than wise / godchaux . I think everyone slacked off after getting the contract.
