He doesn't want to be a battery ram but that's what he's going to end up doing. He'll lock up on trying to process reads and then just take off. Old habits just die hard, and sometimes they never die.

But he didn’t do that last year. Most of his runs were designed runs. There were many times he could have left the pocket and run for positive yards but instead he danced around, threw a bad pass, or took the sack. Probably the most frustrating part was the guy who can’t throw but can run, didn’t want fo run when he couldn’t find a receiver.

You know, I could definitely see this, with probably two WRs on the PS. Keene would spend the year on IR I guess. But I've got a feeling LaCosse sticks for whatever reason.

Who's your FB? Guarantee they carry Johnson for that spot. Johnson also took 43% of the Special Teams snaps last year.

Also, the Pats best running was done when they used a FB to lead the way for Harris and Michel. I don't see the Pats using Henry and Smith as the lead blocker a majority of the time.

That's what makes this time of year really fun. I just have a hunch on Jacob, which means I'll probably be wrong, but I think they could potentially use Keane in that FB role. We'll see though.

Pads come out on tuesday, tompa bay has already practicing in pads. I thought the cba mandated when pads come on

I think that there are 2-3 guys who will be trade commodities. LaCosse being on of them. May only be mid-late round picks, but I can see it happening.

I think that Gunner won't count towards the WR they carry on the Roster. He'll take one of the STs slots.

Who would trade for LaCosse? I don't have him on our 53. I'd drive him to Green Bay for a case of Miller....

Gunner counts vs. the 53 regardless of whether he's a WR/PR/KR/DB or not. Right now, I figure he's our "#5" behind Meyers, Algholor, Bourne, and Harry. With Slater our "#6". Either way, gonna be some tough cuts. I believe we go RB heavy...which will cost us elsewhere.

I think we eschew the FB spot. OK...the locks are: Jones/Newton/Wynn/Onwenu/Andrews/Mason/Brown/Smith/Henry/Algholor/Bourne/Harris/Stevenson/White...that's 14 guys when you want 26 guys on that side of the ball USUALLY. Then you are gonna need to carry 8 OL-men at minimum (Karras, Herron, and Sherman I think)...so that's 17 guys not counting the remaining skill players: Meyers, Olszewski (ST lock), Slater (ST lock), Asiasi, Michel, JJ Taylor, Nixon, Zuber, Wilkerson, Keene, and Johnson...oh and LaCosse. That's 12....two have to go.....

Then again, we could move Harry or Michel...or keep a 3rd QB or keep more depth on defense... even if we only keep 24 offensive guys on that side of the ball...plus 3 specialists (Folk, Cardona, and Bailey)...that leaves us with 26 on defense....

Gonna be some tough cuts, but we can roll without a FB if we have 4 TE's, Harry, meat on the OL, and a deep stable of RB's.

I don't think Asiasi or Keene will be able to do what Jakob Johnson does.

Anyone who may need a veteran TE. Injuries happen every year at that position around he league at TC. Seahawks. Saints. Cowboys. Panthers. All 4 of those teams are lacking in the TE department..

In the post I was replying to, we weren't talking about the 53 man roster. It was specifically on the Offensive side of the ball. As for going RB heavy, I'll disagree. Especially when you consider that the Patriots NORM is to have 4 RBs and 1 FB. Unless you're saying their going to carry 5 RBs.

I think that they will be able to stash Taylor on the PS, in all honesty. Unless Stevenson just WOWs the coaching staff, I don't see them moving Michel unless someone comes with a tremendous offer.

The problem with your additional "12" is that you have 5 more WR for 7 (not including Olszewski/Slater). The Pats aren't taking 9 WR into the season. Taylor, Nixon, Zuber and Wilkerson are likely going to the PS. The only way I see one of those 4 making the team out of camp is if someone like Slater is injured.

Go take a look at some of the previous years.
The Patriots have almost always kept 9 O-linemen and in the early part of the 00's, they regularly kept 10, with 4 being specifically OTs.

The last time that the Patriots didn't have a FB was from 2009-2011. Though Sammy Morris did some lead blocking during that time, I don't consider him a FB.

The only way I see Johnson not being on the team is if Keene gets healthy and shows that he can be the lead blocker. Otherwise, I don't see the Patriots having their two big money players (Henry/Smith) being lead blockers out of the backfield on a regular basis. It defeat the purpose of why the Patriots got them, imho.

It was the same last year, the two throws he could make with any consistency (the slant and the out) are also among the riskiest for interception. The slant because of the traffic of multiple defenders and the out because it requires such precision as the defender can "jump" the route by cutting off the angle.

That was my other complaint about Cam last year - he didn't have "all the throws" to keep the defense honest. Added to his inaccuracy and lateness on passes - much higher turnover risk across the board.

The quick slant and the out pass are the cornerstones of most modern offenses, so it would make sense that they work on them the most at the beginning of camp. If you watch the TEs they are all running the seam route, which is another staple of this offense. I think it is more that they are trying to nail down these three cornerstone routes, before getting into the routes that branch off them, rather than Cam's inability to make the other throws.

Fans are not excited about the team with Cam at Qb. Wait until the real games begin if we are not winning games.
