Crossen was one of our most used special teamers last year, and has prospects at corner.

Dawson is an enigma, and may have a role as a safety.

We tend to have 8 positions defensive backs: 5 corners and 3 safeties, with the some of the corners playing lots of special teams. We've added Brooks to the mix. It seems that he can play some safety, in addition to being a top Ster. That make 9 position DB's. Ordinarily, I wouldn't favor a 10th positional DB, but maybe this year is the exception.

Why would they cut Dawson? They thought he was good enough to trade up in the second round last year to draft him and they’ve already soured on him that much?

The Patriots finished last season with 11 DBs on their roster. I don’t see any reason why they can’t keep 11-12 DBs in a league that is so pass driven now.

Last year, we had Slater, Exner, King, and Crossen.

Instead of Bolden, we had McClellan, Grigsby and Humber. All had over 100 ST reps. 9 position players also had over 100 ST reps.

So the core was 9 position players, 7 who played almost no reps at a position and the 3 ST specialists (K, P, LS). Special teams is big part of the game.

So, we had 19 players who had more than 100 reps on ST's.
As an aside, 19 had more than 100 reps on offense, and 21 had more than 100 reps on defense.

.

Slater, Ebner, Crossen, King, Bolden will be core ST'ers? Maybe Brooks makes the team too for ST?

First, are YOU suggesting that we keep Crossen (the critical STer) and Dawson (the 2nd rounder with potential)?

OK, you consider enigma a bad thing.

I don't think that Sam, Izzo or Berrios are enigmas. They are simply players that aren't
good enough to make this year's roster. We saw a bit of them last year, and so far this year.

Wynn is clearly not an enigma. We knew a lot about Wynn last year, enough to project him as a starter. We had a question about how soon he would be ready to assume his role as on OL starter this year. So, no, not an enigma.

18th WOW! be serious. Maybe we should have re-signed Mcclellan or Grigsby, They had more ST reps.

Most who post here (take a poll if you must) have ZERO interest in Dawson playing another down for us. They are hoping to get a 7th for him. I suggested a 6th.

I saw no need for Dawson. I was fine with keeping Crossen as a STer, but thought that we were fine if we kept Ebner, Brooks and Calhoun. When the story flashed on Chung, THEN I started to again consider whether we needed a 9th position defensive back. TO ME, Dawson is a mystery/enigma. As a 2nd rounder in his second year, he SHOULD HAVE shown plenty in camp to make him a lock to make the team. Is anyone calling him a lock? Are you?

So, for me, Dawson went from a player that was likely to make the team (before the draft), to someone who had little chance, to again being a player who has a chance.
=======
BTW, we are all waiting. Are YOU suggesting keeping SEVEN corners, including Crossen and Dawson? I'm not saying that this isn't best (just not my choice). I'm just looking for your opinion. For me, 6 is the right answer.

Wow.
Dawson is an enigma? Because he was injured in his rookie season? Is Wynn an enigma? Sam? Izzo? Berrios?

Crossen was one of our most used special teamers last year? Sure about that?
He played 113 st snaps. The 18th most on the team.

Are you saying if Dawson managed 39 snaps on defense and snuck into the top 20 in st snaps you’d feel better about him and he wouldn’t be an enigma?

Izzo is making the roster as he did last year when the original 53 was announced despite being injured.

He's running with the 1's and Brady is even looking for him

agreed. Starting to think Izzo is indeed an NFL caliber player. He will be TE2 for the first 4 weeks and then be TE3 but he will be on the roster.

If Dawson was an UDFA we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.

I think as the best blocking TE Izzo will be #2 in snaps.

We all know BB doesn't include draft position as a criteria when evaluating players on his team.

I would expect we keep Crossen now, especially with the injuries to B. King and Ebner. I don't see Dawson making the cut, but thats just me
