Re: Dave Steckel: If Weatherspoon is there at 22 & Pats don't draft him, they're not s
He was elected ROY for making a ton of tackles 99% of which were 4 or more yards down field.
Not sure if you have ever played this game, but as a player when you walk into a locker room, you know real quick who the guys in charge of the locker room are; the guys that set the tone and the guys that command respect. The guys that keep everybody rowing the same way and the guys that deal with the malcontents.
Being elected captain is important, but taking command of a locker room is different and very important for team chemistry. So far I have seen none of that from Mayo. The Thomas revolt would have been the perfect incident for Mayo to set up and squash it so it did not affect the locker room.
Not sure what you're reading or not these days. Mayo doesn't clock in or out. He basically lives in a cave in Gillette... He was elected a captain in his sophomore season for that reason as much as his ROY talent. Then he got injured and basically battled just to get back as soon as he could and he was nowhere near healthy all season but he played through it.
