re: Darrelle Revis Available

Not even close. One guy is a top five CB when healthy but has a nagging hip injury that flares up every year and the other guy is probably the best CB in the game. If Revis lowers his contract demands and comes down under $10M per (not happening), I would be all over it if I was Belichick. The guy effectively shuts down half the field without safety help.

Honestly, I'd take Revis for $10 mil a year. He's worth it.

In regards, I love Talib, but if it comes to him vs Revis. ..Revis all day.

re: Darrelle Revis Available

Unfortunately, I think deep down we know there is no way this will ever happen.

re: Darrelle Revis Available

He is going to end up with one of the teams that is wayyyyy under the cap and play's man coverage. i doubt he will make the mistake of going to a team that plays off in coverage again.

re: Darrelle Revis Available

So about that, "mortgaging the future" thing....

-Trade our 2014 1st for Revis
-Renegotiate his contract to a two year fully guaranteed deal. Something like 2 years 20 million, with the 2014 cap hit being much lower. One can present this to him as a way he could prove his dominance as the best CB in the NFL in a man to man defense and enter free agency at age 30 after 2015.
-Sign Talib to a long term deal with a 4-5 million cap hit in year 1.

If the Patriots want a CB duo of Revis/Talib, they can make it happen. Would it hamper our ability to sign McCourty long term? Yes. Would it hurt our ability to retain our own free agents in 2015? Probably. We would also trade our 1st rounder for only two years of service. Would we field our best defense since 2004? Easily.

CB1: Revis
CB2: Talib
NB: Dennard

Just picture the versatility as well. We could have Revis play slot CB vs Welker/Hilton and completely shut them down, while still having Talib/Dennard on the outside.

re: Darrelle Revis Available

Not going to happen in a million years, but fun to think about.

BB would have a lot of fun with Revis and Talib. We could play 7 or 8 in the box, blitz like crazy and still have the best secondary in the league

re: Darrelle Revis Available

tie up all that $$ in a CB...horrible decision

re: Darrelle Revis Available

That would be something, Revis, Talib, and Dennard as our corners.

Just think, this year everyone wanted to compare our team (and offense specifically) to the 2006 Patriots team.

Do you remember what happened after that season........team added Moss, Welker, Stallworth, and A.Thomas.

Are we in store for another round of offseason fireworks this year?

re: Darrelle Revis Available

Think Krafty would actually spend some of his precious pocket change on Revis?

re: Darrelle Revis Available

I'm listening to Mike Francessa now...just said to a huge Jets fan regarding Revis..."what if they trade him to New England."

hahah Jets fans worst nightmore.

re: Darrelle Revis Available

One thing people almost never consider when they consider blockbuster deals is the impact on the locker room.

You nerds may evaluate players like madden or goddamn fantasy football but it is a job to these guys and with that job comes the normal feeling that you would get if you labored for a decade for a team who then asked you to take a paycut so they could pay some outside guy more than you'll ever see. How would you feel if you were Mankins having played with an injury multiple times and the team asks you to take a paycut and then shovels money and hookers at Revis?

Belichick has remarked about this in the past and it does have an impact if not on the locker room definitely when it comes time to retain a player.

(1) ok so let's not open our minds and imagine anything...good idea...

(2) and there is a difference between trades and free agency...which you conveniently left out.

(3) you call people nerds for one reason but what are you? BB said it so that's the holy grail? you should go work for the organization and just say yes yes yes to BB all day

(4) what about the saying...do your job...if you do your job you don't worry about what anyone else does...

I don't remember a blockbuster deal ever unbalancing a locker room. I think there's sometimes a strong correlation between blockbuster deals and crappy teams, but I think that's a false causation.

Fixed it for you. Revis was nowhere near dominant last season. And a lot of it probably has to do with health. They both have health issues. The question is which one is more affordable.

The other thing I'm afraid of with Revis is that he is KNOWN to demand salary increases. For example if Revis re-negotiated to a reasonable lower deal -because of health issues- and then next year he feels he is fully healthy. What's to STOP HIM from raising new salary demands saying, well I've proven I'm fully healthy now, I want MORE money.

So now you're a hostage. You either pay Revis his new demands, or he sits out and you're out a draft pick. Meanwhile you've probably also lost Talib to another team because there's no way to pay BOTH of them at the same time.

Pros and Cons. Pros and Cons. IF Revis regains his old form, he's great. But if he doesn't? And even if he does, and next year he demands more money, then what??

re: Darrelle Revis Available

Yeah I mean the Raiders would pay him that much, but if he wants to go to a team and win he will have to take less. That being said he will not be a patriot for those who think its a possibility

The Al Davis Raider would; Ole' Al had a CB obsession, but he is no longer with us.

Who's asking anyone to take a pay cut?

If Talib chooses to sign somewhere else and New England were to trade for Revis where's the issue in the locker room?

As far as I'm concerned you can take a pay cut with your god damn fantasy football I tell you what

If Darrelle Revis cares at all about winning and having a shot at the HOF, he must look at what a contender might pay him.

There's no guaranteed money in his current deal, so what does he really have? He's got zero leverage with his current team, no rings, lots of miles coming off a useless season in TB, and a salary in excess of 10% of the cap.

Sure, he can go to a crappy team, get paid and be irrelevant. Or he can work out a deal with a top 4 contender and go out in the spotlight, maybe with a ring. He should talk with Ed Reed who cashed in after securing his place as a HOF defensive back.

Revis is only 28, so he's got time on his side. But the clock is ticking and another three or four years out of the playoffs and he's rich but forgotten.
